@flemingrut

Radical & Reformed biblical theologian. Romans 11:12. Seriously questioning the AI future, but not the unique role of the human being whom we call Lord.

It is a terrible misunderstanding of the Gospel to think that it offers us salvation while relieving us of responsibility for the life of the world, for the sin and sorrow and pain with which our human life and that of our fellow men and women are so deeply interwoven. --Newbigin

open.substack.com/pub/jasonmiche… Here is the best format for my sermon at my husband's funeral. It includes the full text as well as the video. It is not a "eulogy"!Thanks to the tirelss efforts of Jason Micheli...

@PeterHoytema Peter, it has been too long. But to this day I recall your presence in the pulpit. I am so deeply grateful for your sensitive message. Please give me news of your family...

@flemingrut My heartfelt condolences. Hearing a Christ-centered sermon is a great blessing. But hearing that same Christ say to us, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” as we enter his kingdom is pure glory. May that assurance sustain you as you grieve the loss of your husband.

My beloved husband has gone to the Father's house. He loved Jesus. He spent his last two decades supporting and promoting speakers who eagerly introduced Him to others. He loved to hear a Christ-centered sermon. He loved to support Christ-centered churches. He was loved in return

@rosevalley52 Do tell me what is common in Sweden! There is much to learn from other rites/orders. Sending love to you, especially now that I am a sister in chronic pain! 😠 I like looking at your face now 🥰

@flemingrut Thank you! I love when a funeral sermon has the right focus: the Risen Saviour & the hope we have in him alone! I will listen again! I noticed that the order, e.g. around the Farewell, was quite different from what's common in Sweden. And what a lovely picture of your husband!

Among my last words to my husband …to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part, according to God's holy ordinance

I read a lot--more than you might think--about AI. This article makes all the points, probing the whole question of what is human, what is "creation" (as in "content creation"), and what is our relation to God's creation. nytimes.com/2026/06/14/us/…

I'm on Substack now. My first post is about preaching in the age of Trump. I will continue to make side comments on this page 😇

This is a good example of something that should be addressed by preachers. Why should assassination be wrong? all the time? some of the time? What does "love your enemy" mean? These are important questions. wapo.st/3OVVoh4

I was just trying to get a message through to a business about a defective order. After three exchanges with what was obviously AI I threw in the towel, leaving behind what I hope was enough indignation to register even with AI.

I recommend this new project by Trygve Johnson about the shortage of young aspirants for ordained church leadership. Sometimes all it takes is one respected older church member saying to a promising young person, "Have you thought about the ministry?" open.substack.com/pub/trygvejohn…

@Make_it_Raines Wonderful news! Especially in this time of drought. You do mean Columbia, SC, not Trinity, SC, don't you? My sister's church!

Mark Edmundson, professor of English at UVA, recently wrote this. In my opinion the new trend toward public vulgarity at the highest level of politics and government is a serious sign of cultural deterioration. But he says it better than I do. nytimes.com/2025/09/14/opi…

More about children's literature: Rowan Williams, the celebrated poet and former Archbishop of Canterbury, once commented that Disney had ruined Winnie-the-Pooh. Not many will understand this, but those who do will see to it that the youngsters get copies of the A. A. Milne Pooh!

@flemingrut WOKE VALUES affected even the writing of children’s books. Who allowed this to happen? I had to go back to read classics like: Jane Eyre, Secret Garden, the Railway children, Girl of the Limberlost, Anne of Green Gables series, Little Princess, Heidi, ALICE in Wonderland.

Speaking of children's classics, I am dismayed that most sites today recommend only new books. I learned about kindness to beggar children from two sources: "A Little Princess" (Burnett) and "A Little Match Girl" (Andersen). The movies DO NOT DO IT. Books work on us differently.
