The Universal Prayer includes this request of God: "I am sorry for my sins; deepen my sorrow." I feel the Lord deepening my sorrow when I see more clearly how destructive my sins are and were. Sorrow increases with clarity, with seeing ramifications ripple out in time, ripple through the generations of my family, like the ripples created when a rock is thrown into a still pond. When will the ripples that were started in the past cease? I don't know. I want to stop sinning. I want to stop doing things that are damaging to myself, to the people around me, and to my relationship with God (not His relationship to me, but my relationship to Him). Dear Lord, please give me the grace to never sin again. You have forgiven me for my past sins but the ripples remain. Please help me to not despair when I see the ripples but rather to use them as an opportunity to cultivate the virtue of hope and increase my trust in you, remembering that you are able to use them for good because nothing is impossible for you. My dear Mother, my beautiful Mother, holy Mother of God, pray for me! All holy saints and angels, pray for me!

The topic of the original post is to show how the phrase "that's not biblical" is doing important yet unstated work for those who use the phrase. As I mentioned to you before on another thread, it would be my preference for those who use the phrase to instead use the unstated part. It would be more productive and more honest. It is not my intention to debate Bible verses. If you want to know what the Catholic Church teaches and the Bible verses used to support any of the topics that I mentioned above, I recommend using Grock. You may respond by claiming victory, saying that I can't debate you, that I don't know my bible, etc., as you did on the other thread. That's fine. It doesn't bother me because I know it's not true and I don't need to prove it to you. It just means I don't want to debate Bible verses. I would rather talk about how people who use the phrase "that's not biblical" aren't being fully honest in using it. I'm not saying they're being deceitful because maybe they don't realize what they're doing.

@everybodysdaugh Zero verses support your papacy and a human head of the church. Christ is the head of the church and no one else. There is no single human that is the head of Christianity

I must admit that when Protestants say, "That's not Biblical," what it seems like they mean is, "I don't agree with the Catholic interpretation of the Bible verses Catholics use to support their teachings." Four easy examples: 1. The Papacy 2. The real presence of Christ in Holy Communion 3. Confession 4. The distinction between mortal sin and venial sin There are verses to support all of these but Protestants reject the Catholic interpretation of those verses. The phrase "That's not Biblical" is doing a lot of work that is not stated in a clear way.

I am convinced that Baptist Christianty or Catholicism are the truest form of Christianity. I do not currently attend a church. Convince me which of the two denominations is correct.

@everybodysdaugh @thyflameoflove Really? Have you had your eyes checked lately? Do you think that's what a lower "class" teenage woman from Judea in the 1st century would look like? Really?

Many Christians ask a sincere question: If Jesus never directly commanded the Rosary, why do Catholics pray it? Here are seven simple reasons: 1. The Rosary Is Rooted in Scripture → The main prayers of the Rosary come from the Bible. The Our Father was taught by Jesus Himself (Matthew 6:9–13). The Hail Mary contains the words spoken by the Angel Gabriel and St. Elizabeth (Luke 1:28, 42). The mysteries of the Rosary are based on important events from the lives of Jesus and Mary found throughout the Gospel. 2. It Helps Us Meditate on Jesus → The Rosary is not just about saying prayers. It is about reflecting on the life of Christ. As we pray, we meditate on His birth, ministry, suffering, death, resurrection, and glory. Pope John Paul II called the Rosary a "compendium of the Gospel" because it summarizes the story of salvation. 3. Mary Always Points Us to Christ → Catholics do not pray the Rosary because they believe Mary is equal to Jesus. They pray it because Mary leads us to Him. Her instruction at Cana is simple: "Do whatever He tells you" (John 2:5). Every mystery of the Rosary ultimately directs our attention to Jesus. 4. Repetitive Prayer Is Found in the Bible → Jesus warned against vain repetition, not sincere repetition. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He prayed the same prayer more than once (Matthew 26:44). In Heaven, the angels continually cry out, "Holy, Holy, Holy" before God's throne (Isaiah 6:3; Revelation 4:8). Repeating a prayer with faith is biblical. 5. Christians Have Used Prayer Aids for Centuries → The Rosary developed over time as a practical way for ordinary Christians to pray through the Gospel and keep track of their prayers. Christians in both the East and West have long used prayer ropes, beads, and other prayer aids to help them remain focused in prayer. 6. The Rosary Has Been Recommended by Many Saints → Throughout Church history, countless saints have encouraged the Rosary because it helped them grow in holiness. Saints from different countries, centuries, and walks of life consistently pointed people toward this devotion as a way to stay close to Jesus and persevere in faith. 7. The Church Recommends It, But Does Not Require It → The Rosary is a private devotion, not a doctrine that Catholics must pray to be saved. The Church encourages it because it has helped countless people deepen their relationship with Jesus and grow in holiness. The Rosary is not about replacing Jesus. It is about spending time with Him, reflecting on His life, and allowing His Mother to lead us closer to Him. 💬 If a prayer helps you focus on Jesus, draws you into Scripture, and deepens your faith, why do you think so many Christians still reject it?

Did you know you can say 8 prayers in one minute? Well, more or less. This week Father Rocky prays through them with you: the Sign of the Cross, the Our Father, the Hail Mary, the Glory Be, the Fatima Prayer, the Guardian Angel prayer, Grace Before Meals, and the Act of Contrition. Eight prayers, one minute, and you're on your way. One lesson, about a minute, and it costs you nothing. I have attended a number of Latin masses, but the most beautiful mass I ever attended was a NO mass in Paris at Sacre Coeur in 2015. It seemed like I had stepped into heaven.

@PopeDefendersX NO gets a lot of hate. It makes me wonder what it looks like in other countries. The ones I attend here are so solemn and reverent

I’m really tired of defending the Catholic Church from Protestants, who not only refuse to listen but repeatedly disparage the church founded by Christ Himself. They are people who are so full of hate that no matter how much you explain, they will still come up with some unconnected verse to prove their point. They are irrational. It has become a futile effort. I’m also gonna start taking time off. Fridays are going to be fasting, not just from meat, but also from social media. Sundays are going to be a day of rest and thinking about God and the holy Eucharist. The body and blood of Christ. No social media on those days.

Sola scriptura and individual interpretation Regarding the area outlined in red in the screenshot below from @BishopJaxi , I have an anecdote from my family that I will share to highlight what is saying there. I have an elderly family member who belongs to a particular Protestant denomination. I would say that this family member is Biblically literate--she knows her Bible. Her denomination teaches that baptism is necessary for salvation. While speaking to this family member on the phone a few years ago, she shared with me that she doesn't believe that baptism is necessary for salvation. This means that she doesn't believe what her denomination teaches about what the Bible teaches about baptism. Because she's my elder, I love her, and I respect her, I didn't want to turn this into a theological debate or discussion. She knows I'm Catholic and she's a little bit anti-catholic so I just didn't want to start anything. But in my mind I was thinking what a good example this was of how Protestants really do believe that they are free to take a "pick and choose" approach to whatever doctrines they want to believe. She didn't even believe her own church on a doctrine that her church claims is necessary for salvation. In one sense, she was free to do that because Protestants freely admit that they don't have any binding authority.

I am at the point where I think all of their arguments are weak. Plus with internet searching and AI they can so easily check to see if what they believe about the Church is true, yet they don't bother. They argue on social media about stuff that they haven't even verified. Like please, don't come at me claiming that there aren't any Bible verses to defend the idea of praying to saints (for example). It would be better if they'd do some searching, then say, "I know the Catholic Church uses these Bible verses to defend praying to saints, but I don't agree that those verses work." But no, that's not what we get. I can't respect their approach.
