@Sander7408 @KimDotcom @grok 1933 was the year the Haavara agreement was signed between Nazi Germany and Zionist organisations, facilitating Jewish emigration from Nazi Germany. Between 1933 and 1939, roughly 50.000-60.000 German Jews emigrated under this agreement.

@Colonthreee Open source like "linux" and "git" is just creating more work for everyone involved. There is no reason for it to be so complicated, convoluted, opaque and behaving like it knows best. It should not require the user to know a billion commands and "tricks" to use. It's unscalable.

@0x44_ @Colonthreee Just pick up books on Linux and how it works, and spend some months understanding it from the perspective of making it. All its decisions will make more sense then. It's a quagmire admittendly, but once you spent years owning the box and get good grasp of it, it's fairly robust.

It’s interesting that US Congress has an eight day period of remembrance while Germany, the nation that perpetrated the Holocaust, has only one day (Jan 27). Why is that? The Holocaust is a tragedy but America ended that tragedy by winning WW2.
Chris Menahan 🇺🇸@infolibnews

Members of Congress kicked off an eight-day Holocaust Remembrance event Tuesday on Capitol Hill, Wolf Blitzer reports. "My colleague Dana Bash and I participated in [the Holocaust Remembrance Day March of the Living] in 2023," Blitzer notes. "It was a very moving experience."

@kivilcimiol @igor_os777 Yes, none of it is hard. But all of it combined is a permanent headache, because Linux is full of these kinds of oddities and pits of failure.

Ever wondered why Windows uses backslashes (\) while Unix stubbornly sticks to forward slashes (/)? Blame IBM and Microsoft’s shortsightedness in DOS. Unix pioneered forward-slash file separation, a sensible design choice adopted in URLs. When MS-DOS added directories, forward slashes already had another job—command-line options. In a panicked rush, Gates and company arbitrarily chose backslashes. Cue decades of pain for generations of IT admins juggling both OSes. One tiny decision, forever cursing humanity with confusing slashes, awkward escapes, and decades of ranting from frustrated Unix beards. You can practically hear Unix devs laughing all the way from Bell Labs.

@kivilcimiol @igor_os777 Yes, but allowing this is professional degeneracy of the bearded old men. If ls shows me 'my new file.txt' like this, I'm not even sure the quotes are in the filename or not. This is just one of these reasons why nothing is ever fast to accomplish in Linux.

@ewjonker @igor_os777 Backslash is the major escape character separator since almost all major and minor programming languages descend from C which uses backslash as the escape character

@RainerS2066246 @igor_os777 True men use US keyboards. We Dutch changed the US keyboard pretty much only to have AltGr properly labelled. On a US keyboard you just pick US International layout. Just learn to be faster hitting Alt+225 for that odd ß if you're German 🙃

@ewjonker @igor_os777 Usable without SHIFT on english keyboards. On german 🇩🇪 keyboards it's 'AltGr + ß' somewhere in the darkest corners 😖. Similar for french 🇫🇷 and spanish 🇪🇸

Definitie van autocratie, Jan? #35 @ 1:04:10? "De democratie waarin alles al vaststaat. Waarin alles nep is. Elk overleg met de overheid is nep, want uiteindelijk gaan ze je forceren." Ulsula "we've got tools" von der Leyen. De democratie met de escalatieladder is een charade.

@Dolfijnmanjohns Same thing. It is a matter of succession, each of these empires providing lineage, royal blood, roles, operating schemes, institutions and influence to the successor, extending to today. Even in obvious ways, if you care to inform yourself.

@IRANinTJ Tajikistan, ..., How can you take such a bad situation and screw it up even worse?! This can be criticized on so many levels. The simplest of which is that it is just incredibly crude and small minded. If this is supposed to be humour, then you have some reflection to do.
