"basic" rlhf if you are asking > "did this response follow the instruction?" or > "is this response grammatically correct?" or > "did the model refuse a clearly harmful request?" a strong model can judge this as well as or better than a median human contractor. probably it is gonna be faster / cheaper / and more consistent. also, no inter-annotator disagreement and quality drift across shifts. we are in time to leverage stronger model for niche usecases

i think the data vendoring market for frontier labs is going to bifurcate in near time. let me divide into two tiers. tier 1: strategic partnerships > probably deep / multi-year / exclusive or near-exclusive relationships where the vendor is effectively an extension of the lab's research org. > think mechanize with anthropic. these contracts will be worth hundreds of millions individually and will include joint research + shared IP + embedded teams. tier 2: commodity marketplace > kind of a high-volume / lower-margin annotation and basic RLHF work that gets increasingly automated by models themselves. > the margins here might compress and the contractor workforce gets partially replaced by ai-in-the-loop.
