@almormd Haha. At first one feels great, and then the placebo wears off. Eventually the eternal question: do you cover the Apple logo?

@hanscath And you canโ€™t use 1 or 2, right? Because being naked in just shoes feels even more naked.

A dev I know told me that girls actually donโ€™t care about our cool laptop stickers. So basically weโ€™re just competing with each other. Total nonsense, of course.

Dime store analysis: Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Systematic and strategic intentional strife designed into labor relations over decades creates an environment where once leverage shifts, the pendulum is incredibly hard (& expensive) to swing back.

One of these days someoneโ€™s gonna need to explain the airline business to me. #AA wonโ€™t upgrade my seat to a $32 premium seat for free to help me make a connection. So, theyโ€™re gonna pay for a +$100 hotel if I miss my flight. Also their chat staff is not empowered to help.

@DJSnM Iโ€™m shaking just reading that description. Take care of yourself, Scott. Me and my friends who Iโ€™ve discussed this with, who fly in the area, are gonna respect the winds at KDVO just a little more after you shared that with us.

Some more comments about yesterday's crash: Yesterday I took a friend flying, we flew over the Bay, up the coast and then headed out to Columbia to check out their old gold rush museums. This was a change of plans and ended up taking longer than expected, I know that around 3-4 the winds at KDVO can get strong, so I got the weather 30 miles out and it was not good. But the weather was changing rapidly, and when I landed I was in a train of 4 planes who all got easy winds. After we stopped tying up the runway, the pilot of the Meyer 200 took to the runway. If you check the video I attached you can see how the winds were changing minute to minute. When taxiing back after landing the windsock was showing no wind. That was a temporary lull. I parked the plane, climbed out and as I turned I saw the crash, and the post impact fireball. It would have been 100m away from me, and so I ran up there. I got close enough to touch the plane. It had hit the corner of the hangar at a 45 degree angle to the runway. The left wing was low and the tail still sticking out of the building. However there was just a wall of fire. One fuel tank had split during the impact, covering the aircraft with fuel, the windows had already turned black in the 20 second it took for me to get there. I couldn't see inside the plane. I wouldn't be able to reach the door without stepping over the wall of the hangar and I guess the spilled fuel was pooling against the edges of the building meaning the flames were concentrated inside. There were 3 other tanks in the plane that opened up violently in the next few minutes, and I believe another aircraft in the hangar with its own fuel. Called 911, that took a couple of minutes and then as it burned I took a short video to show the orientation of the vehicle before the fire consumed it. This video shows the structure failing due to heat less than 3 minutes after the crash. I've shared this with authorities, not publicly. I didn't stick around after giving witness statements to authorities. I just booked another flight with an instructor this week.

@NavyDigi @DJSnM Situation awareness, understanding your and your aircraftโ€™s capabilities, and good decision-making make this hobby less dangerous. That said, Gnoss can be a very tricky airport to operate at, which is why CFIs from all over the Bay Area bring students there for x-wind practice.

@DJSnM What's the right procedure for taking off when conditions might be like this? Forward pressure on the stick? Just avoid the takeoff altogether?

We only saw the impact, but another pilot who was taxiing saw a bad takeoff: the winds were changing a lot and we think he got lifted early, without enough speed, he bounced, entered a high AoA state, wobbled a bit and then went left across the taxiway into the hangar. Winds were 'calm, gust 19kts'

@DJSnM Scott, as a fellow Sonoma County aviator and follower of your online work, Iโ€™m saddened by this accident, feel terrible for the family, as well as our small pilot community. Iโ€™m sorry that you had to be a witness to this horrible accident, but thank you for trying to help.

I don't get it, this is like the #1 best person to sit next to on a plane. Won't talk to you, won't touch you, won't get wasted, definitely showered this morning, probably won't play videos out loud on his phone, 10/10 ideal seat mate.

You get on a plane and find your seat next to this person. What do you do?

I have a student (in a restricted environment) who constantly complains about how hard learning to code is, complains about the tools available aren't adequate. What would you tell this student? I assume this student treats any hard situation this way.
