@airindia Unrelenting and not accepting their fault. Airline calls itself Air India but ill treats veterans. @MoCA_GoI @PMOIndia please ask them to drop tbe country's name from theirs and rename themselves. Only parroting sorry but not helping.

@lionking183 @bsdhanoa There was the well known case of an Army Cdr who was due retirement in low med category, suddenly became in the running for COAS and was recategorised Shape1.

The thinking in senior military circles about #IncomeTaxExemption to personnel (especially officers) retiring with a disability is that they seek such benefits to avail a tax free pension. Take away this exemption & the cases will reduce. That, unfortunately, isn’t going to work.

Subject: Taxing disability pension received by Veterans The budget proposals presented by the Finance Minister to the Parliament on 01 Feb 2026 suggests imposing Income tax on disability pension paid to Veterans while exempting the same in the case of War disabled Veterans who were boarded out of Service. Definitely, tax exemption was provided to disability pension because of the permanent and irreversible disability sustained and not because they were boarded out or allowed to continue in service and superannuate. Disability pensions paid to Disabled Veterans are to two distinct varieties of disabled soldiers which as follows: - The War disabled. - Those who acquire life style diseases due to stress and strain in Service. It may be mentioned here, the practice of boarding out soldiers suffering from life style diseases has now been ended excepting in specific cases following the system in practice in the case of civilian government employees and they retire on superannuation in their present rank. To be fair to the war disabled, who sustain injuries without any notice, in war while executing the orders of their commanders, they cannot be equated with those who become disabled due to life style diseases over a period of time due to harsh Service conditions. This is not to underestimate the severity of the health issues suffered by the soldiers due to life style diseases. As per the present day rules, battle casualties are retained in service till they superannuate or they specifically demand that they be boarded out of service. This exactly is what has happened in the earlier cases. In the earlier cases, officers were allowed to continue in service as battle casualties till they superannuate and they were not made aware of the fact that if they continue in service their disability pension will be taxed. Their consent to that effect was also not obtained. The rationale for Income Tax concession was the disability acquired during war and due to harsh Service conditions and not because that one was boarded out or allowed to continue in Service and superannuate. My request is that the the two variety of pensioners receiving disability pension be not considered as a single block and they be separated as ‘War Disabled’ and ‘Disabled due to life style diseases’ keeping in mind the conditions under which the two varies became disabled. Exemption from Income Tax provided to Battle Casualties may be continued and they be not equated with those who become disabled due to life style diseases. In a war that would have cost crores, would seeking a few hundreds crores as tax exemption for the permanently and irreversibly disabled soldiers in the war asking for too much? @PMOIndia @tallstories @rajnathsingh @nsitharamanoffc @PMOIndia With a request that the PM may be apprised of the facts.
