When a soldier guards our borders, he does not calculate his sacrifice in tax slabs.
He spends Diwali in a bunker. Eid on the border. Misses family milestones. And sometimes he loses a part of his body in service of the nation.
That disability pension is not income. It is compensation for a wound carried for life.
Yet under the Budget 2026 provisions, whether that pension is taxed or not depends on when the soldier retired. Not on the injury he suffered or the sacrifice he made.
Two soldiers. One wound. Two tax rules.
Soldier A gets injured and leaves the Army — his disability pension is tax-free.
Soldier B gets injured but continues serving the nation — his disability pension will be taxed
Same injury. Same sacrifice.
But the one who served longer is punished more.
A soldier doesn’t calculate sacrifice in tax slabs.
You can tax income. You cannot tax sacrifice.

🔹Forwarded from PMO via PMOPG/E/2025/0069837 on 18 May 25.
🔹PMO FAA (Shobana Pramod) vide reply PMOIN/R/E/25/02986 dt 01/10/25 advised: "consult Department of Defence Finance (FADS) for action… petition forwarded and resting with them."
Yet the petition was misrouted and closed as "suggestions":
▪️Sh Dhritiman Bhattacharya, SAO PCDA(P) closed it on 05 Jun 25 stating it falls under suggestions, not grievance.
▪️Appeal FADSS/E/A/25/0000741 filed 16 Jun 25 explicitly requested forwarding to Hon'ble PM office.
PCDA(P) claimed action:
Letter EDP/58/CPP/SPARSH/2025 dt 26 Jun 25 to CGDA HQ said the matter was "taken up" for transfer as requested by the appellant.
But CGDA Pension Cell (Smt Molly Sengupta, Jt CGDA) instructed:
"With reference to Grievance reply vide letter no EDP/58/CPP/SPARSH/2025 dt 05/06/25, the appeal may be closed with same reference in the form of speaking order duly signed by appellate authority."

The USA went into Vietnam thinking that it was a war against Communism. However, the Vietnamese fighting them were fighting as Nationalists .. the same Nationalists who had the experience of centuries, fighting invaders who coveted their lands.
The USA, with less than 200 years of history behind them at that time, were bound to lose against a civilizational memory spanning a millennium.
In case of the current war that the USA is waging against Iran, the Regime still stands, possibly because the millennia old Persian civilization would rather deal (or maybe NOT deal) with a 47 year old regime in its own time, instead of welcoming an impatient, barely 250 year old empire to do it for them.

Setting aside the disability pension issue for a moment, Mr. Raghav Chadha should know that the vast majority of our Jawans do not even pay income tax. Thanks to the Modi government significantly increasing the income tax exemption limit, their regular salaries are completely tax-free. Furthermore, the medical care and facilities provided to our soldiers are now vastly superior under the Modi government. PM Modi even celebrates Diwali with them. Tell your team to do better research before writing these dramatic scripts.
