@bhalligan On 1, I think in spaces with high innovation and technology transitions, you can have many thriving vendors (ETL for example). With most apps, I think it is generally true that only the top 2-4 vendors will end up with good outcomes. Also, I think ActOn was a .Net stack…

I wonder if there’s an investor lesson here re ActOn. Back in the day, HubSpot saw them a lot in deals and lost to them a fair amount - they were scrappy. Arguably, they were probably the 5th-ish largest marketing automation vendor back then, behind Eloqua, Marketo, and HubSpot and probably around even with Pardot. Infusionsoft was probably 6th. 1. Is it that the market only can bear 3-4 players and the long tail gets starved of revenue and venture $? Do the 4th or 5th largest vendors ever flourish? Asking not telling. 2. When industry consolidation happens, it happens fast. Oracle, Adobe, and ET/Salesforce all made there bets within a relatively short amount of time.
