Re: Keller outing today… Pirates seemingly have been ultra conservative with their starters in the build up and innings budget early on. Understandable. The simple fact and brutal reality is that starting pitching depth is not strong enough to be anything other than stringent and disciplined with their current 5-man. They traded two arms away to get bats. Margin is razor thin in this area. They’re vulnerable.

Some I’ve talked to in the industry feel the PPI pick value is $20-25 million. So, yeah, there’s plenty of incentive to have Griffin up Day One. If he’s not, the rationale is absolutely steeped in development/baseball and nothing else.

@JimBowdenGM The extra year of control argument is so dumb.. Especially for a guy like Griffin.. He most likely is good enough it’s not gonna matter when he finishes top 2 in ROTY voting and Pirates could’ve gained an extra pick if he was up all year..

The #Pirates did the right thing by reassigning Konnor Griffin to minors for a couple of reasons. 1. It gives them a chance to secure an extra year of control which for a small market team like PGH is huge. 2. He wasn't quite major league ready w/ the bat. However Pwr & de is ready.

With the Steelers signing Rico Dowdle, Kaleb Johnson just became a top trade candidate for Pittsburgh this offseason. I’m curious to see how much they could get for him in a trade. Obviously his value has taken a hit since he was drafted last year, but there’s definitely teams out there that liked him coming out that still need RB help, and this isn’t a great RB draft class with the free agency well starting to run pretty dry at this point. I don’t think KJ is a completely worthless asset of the trade market this year.
