The $150-200 crude oil price commodity portfolios have finally realized that a Recession is now our greatest fear and products like Ags which have a global surplus are seeing demand destruction already. Market is extremely Long Ags and is tired of trading Iran war conflict. We saw the same thing during the Russia/Ukriane invasion. Ags are a supply/demand market. Can only pump so much macro money into them until the buying makes no sense. Corn and wheat are barely hanging on by a trend line and beans with a massive bear flag. Next round of liquidation opens up massive downside and liquidation in our markets. BRZ and ARG crop estimates in beans and corn are being raised weekly and you have an undersold farmer in South America. Things are about to get real ugly!

@DDFalpha @ISU145 Anyone have an opinion on how the rains came for wheat ? The market is not trading rains on the corn belt …..

My breakfast mullings: With much of the US Midwest receiving 1 to 4 inches of rain this past week, the drought narrative is beginning to dwindle. Granted, more rain is needed, however historically once widespread rains begin they rarely shutoff. I'm sure some will try to argue planting delays. My takeaway is this, the last pillar holding together the grains is crude oil, but the grains have started decoupling from crude. If crude oil collapses, I would be terrified by the prospect of the funds liquidating their large longs in soybeans and corn, especially with grains already beginning a downward trajectory. Shoutout to @DDFalpha, I borrowed 2 of your past 7 day precip maps. Yours were nicer than the ones I found and more revealing.

I still don’t understand how regulators allow a single algorithm to dominate such a large percentage of daily trading volume in commodities. I track algos, and it’s obvious — in grain markets, one algo can easily take 20-30%+ of the daily volume. This should not be allowed. No single algo should exceed 5% of daily volume. Thoughts?

I’m watching guys who grow corn complain about gas prices. That’s exactly why I like trading corn—you can’t make this up ..

If this is your first foray into the “geopolitical commodity disruption” trade - look at this chart and realize that you need to have one foot out the door at all times. These are not secular moves, do not believe anyone who - once the cycle sets itself up - tells you a smart sounding story about how they are. The moves contain within them the seeds of their own destruction. They are trades.

Fertilizer prices have moved up to their highest levels since September 2022, rising 44% YoY. About a third of global fertilizer supply passes through the Strait of Hormuz. This will drive food price inflation higher in the coming weeks/months. Video: youtube.com/watch?v=L3o7T1…

“I’ve never seen this level of confluence before: so many major markets are simultaneously parked right at critical pivot levels. This setup screams high-probability action—price will either turn sharply (reversal/bounce) or snap through decisively (breakout/breakdown). Volatility could spike fast from here.”
