BREAKING: @FoxNews is on scene in Portsmouth, VA where the FBI is raiding the office of Virginia Senate President Pro Tempore L Louise Lucas, a Democrat and close ally of VA Governor Spanberger. Fed law enforcement sources tell FOX this is in connection to a major corruption probe, and the FBI is serving multiple search warrants, approved by a federal judge, at her office and a next door cannabis dispensary. Thinking more about the Pitt swimming situation (and college sports, in general). It all comes down to the basic question: How much revenue do you generate? If the answer is "little" or "none" then you're on the wrong side of the equation.

@PantherLair wait are they making more or needing more due to revenue sharing? I thought maybe the profits they used to make now have to be sunk back into those 2 programs because of the competitiveness of paying players, as opposed to used to fund other programs.

The problem is, football pays for a lot of the rest of the athletic department. Football makes a lot of money, and a lot of that money gets used to support the other sports. Take away football revenue and the belt probably tightens even more on sports like swimming.
