Netflix documentary on Uganda Yesterday bwana @Odrek_Rwabwogo called me and asked me if I had time to be interviewed about uganda today by team putting together a documentary on what’s makes Uganda unique and I said yap. Him like many of you know I love talking about what makes uganda unique for both local and international audience. My heart lights up when am talking about Uganda. It’s because I know Uganda almost in and out. But bwana @Odrek_Rwabwogo hadn’t told who was to interview me, I just found out it was @MrJoJoRyder who has so much under his name. I cancelled every meeting today morning and we had very deep discussions. Am always curious about people who have achieved a lot like him, I asked questions, he asked me about my life, we spoke about God and He plays a role in our lives in things we do. Bachelorette reality show for example was his idea and done lots of other stuff but will write about it all begun. I was amused about his story and how things turned out. Ofcourse I enjoyed talking about uganda can’t wait to see final product on Netflix. I sent @Odrek_Rwabwogo a message and told him, that’s a great connection and Uganda needs such connections. Marketing A few days ago, I was having a chat with a friend( smart person) of mine about marketing and the person says, I have a shop with very nice items but I have never tried to market that shop to any of my workmates where I work. I asked the friend why not? Friend says marketing amongst many Ugandans by an Ugandan sounds like boosting, arrogance, posing etc so I fear to do so. This friend is very educated, has masters from one of the best universities in Europe. It’s not the first time I have heard people talk about marketing in similar way and sometimes, it’s the same mindset people apply when I tell them let’s market Uganda. People don’t have enough information about the value of marketing. And in Uganda freedom of expression by many Ugandans not everyone Ofcourse comes 100% without sense of responsibility. People talk fwaaa like my friend @skaheru likes to put it. Recently during the heated discussions on uganda and myself, one guy said, why should you market your products when people are in trouble? It shows you have no empathy according to him. Same person didn’t say anything about the fact that telecoms, banks, insurance companies don’t pull down their adverts on TVs , bill boards etc because to him, it’s okay for foreigners( we hardly own those) to advertise their businesses not a Ugandan. To me, there is hardly a week where I don’t need to show empathy, it’s either a friend is gone, or sick or a relative is dead and if I didnt market because that has happened, I wouldn’t afford to even survive let alone the business. Sometimes I have to tell friends, I will send mabuggo/contribution but I can’t afford to both drive a car, stay overnight at a hotel and contribute. So let me send what I would have spent instead, otherwise I would never work. I know very many people but I also have big responsibilities. After you have produced a product or service, marketing becomes a bedrock of its survival. You will never sustain production of stuff using emotions, people must buy your product for you to continue producing them. How will you pay salaries, suppliers, utilities, pay rent? Infrastructure development like most people like taking me on. Some people think am so daft that I don’t understand that uganda needs to improve its infrastructure for tourism to thrive very well, its something I know very well but where will the money come from to do so. My take is simple, we are broke as a country but we have something to work with so we can raise money to improve on the infrastructure but marketing is critical for that to happen. Everyday you read, Japan has given us 480bn for Karuma bridge, china has given us ushs 100bn for friendship, we are borrowing these amounts of billions for all sorts of expenses, little is spoken about what we are doing to earn. I have always told you, follow information on budgets, banking etc and understand our state of affairs. Our budget 2024/2025 was close to ushs 72 Trillions, URA was to collect taxes between ushs 25 trillions to ushs 30 trillions which isn’t enough to even pay our debt repayments now. The above means we have to borrow close to ushs 45 trillions to manage the budget for 2024/2025. That’s a very sad state but if we focused on positioning uganda through marketing our tourism and agriculture products to external markets so we can earn new monies or forex, we wouldn’t struggle as much. We must change our mindset if we are to ever survive or thrive! We must focus on attaining practical knowledge that we can apply. And each of us must play a role for that to happen.

Newly sworn-in President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah (R) has reduced Namibia’s Cabinet from 21 to 14 ministries. Additionally, the number of deputy ministers has been cut from 17 to 7. Nandi-Ndaitwah said the aim is to streamline governance and reduce public expenditure. She also appointed Lucia Witbooi (L) as Vice President, marking the first time in Namibia’s history—and notably in African history—that both the president and vice president positions are held by women simultaneously. Of her 14 ministers, 9 are women and 5 men.

Today, on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, we note that pervasive and deeply embedded systemic and structural racism continue to underwrite the oppression of people of colour. As African and African descent leaders in the @UN System, we warn that the development of our continent remains under threat as global systems, laws, beliefs and practices perpetuate widespread unfair treatment of minorities. In our interconnected world, no country or region can tackle these challenges alone. We hold fast to the belief that global solidarity is how we can achieve equality and human rights for all peoples. On this day, we will not be cast as victims. For over two decades, the US Government has been the biggest champion of the global HIV response. The current disruptions in US funding for PEPFAR and other programs are having a devastating impact. If PEPFAR is not fully resumed, and other resources are not found for the HIV response, UNAIDS estimates that over the next four years there would be: ☑️ 6.3 million additional AIDS-related deaths ☑️ 8.7 million additional people newly infected with HIV. The global disruption in HIV prevention and treatment services has led to clinic closures and halted prevention efforts and community systems - threatening to reverse decades of hard-won progress in the fight to #endAIDS. The suddenness of this disruption highlights the need for a planned transition for countries from foreign aid to national ownership in order to ensure continuity of HIV services. @UNAIDS is working with partners to develop HIV sustainability roadmaps to support countries to lead the critical programmatic, policy and financial aspects of their HIV response. We are promoting national ownership, increasing domestic financing, and ensuring that the hard-earned progress in the HIV response is protected and sustained. A vital lesson in all this is that global problems need global solutions. Pandemics respect no borders, and viruses don’t stop for visas. Ending a pandemic like AIDS requires coordination, solidarity, and compassion. We are hopeful that the 🇺🇸 government will maintain its life-saving contributions through PEPFAR, while countries work urgently to ensure sustainability of their HIV responses with greater national ownership.
