4th of July has me reflecting on life, liberty, and the pursuit of tax-free gains. With new QSBS rules around the corner—3 years = 50% tax-free, 4 years = 75%, 5 years = 100%—it’s never been a better time to be a U.S.-based LP in a venture fund. @MollySOShea Tough realization: You’re born alone, you live alone, and you die alone. You may be surrounded by people, but that doesn’t make you any less “alone”

It took a couple weeks for the effects to really kick in, but now I'm obsessed with @takezest... The last couple of months I've been waking up almost every morning, 5am, no alarm clock. It's wild. I think at this point I'm a lifelong customer.

Serious question: What tool do you use to track/manage your to-do list, and easily add to it as new items arise / pop into your head throughout the day?

i honestly wonder if he believes the shit he says, or if he just says it because he knows the masses are pretty stupid and love to hear provocative opinions. also - i'm convinced that because american society is so good, it is boring and uneventful, so people love Mamdanis because they create the chaos that people crave. a safe & stable life is not an exciting one.

My girlfriend has been nearly assaulted on the subway repeatedly. (would have been if i had not been there). I've been attacked on 3 separate occasions, one of which led to a 3 cracked ribs (no i've not posted about this before because I'm not a little bitch, far worse has happened to me) I've seen men pull guns and knives out on the subways with no consequences for their actions. I've seen women or children or older people assaulted only for the perpetrator in question to be back on the streets days later. I've seen asian families racially insulted and threatened only for nothing to be done by the police to protect them or prevent this behavior in the future. A man who stabbed multiple people to death last summer was a repeat offender with multiple past arrests. A man was pushed onto the subway tracks earlier this year at the same stop my co-founder lives just minutes before he got off the subway. Violence isn't an artificial fucking construct to anyone living in New York city today.

You’ll have to forgive me if the last line felt insulting. That was not my intention. My intention for saying “half baked” was to highlight that I think we started from very similar camps of thought, but I think you failed to consider the nuance of how Zohran makes various groups feel, let alone the reality of what he can do to immigrant lives. It meant to encourage you to interrogate your thought deeper. Perhaps more pointed, and productive, questions that would help me understand your perspective are: Do you think Zohran is pro-capitalism? What I mean is, will he create an environment that allows capitalism and capitalists to thrive, or will he (his policy, his rhetoric, etc) make it harder for them (capitalism and capitalists) to excel and grow? Do you think his inability to condemn those who perpetrate and perpetuate violence against Jews is a “deal breaker” or non-starter for supporting him? If Zohran’s turns traditionally private businesses into government run programs, even at a small scale, will it at all benefit someone who wants to compete with government businesses, or will it make it harder for them? For example, would it make it easier or harder for the many immigrant families who own bodegas to thrive if Zohran set up government grocery stores? More background on my beliefs: I’ve only been in NYC for one year, and my view is there’s a lot to be fixed. I (at least currently) live below what most in Manhattan experience. I don’t make much money, and live off the money I make. No savings, no help from parents, none of that. What I can afford forces me to deal with a lot of bullshit. Drugs sold outside my apartment. Crackheads screaming on the street and keeping me up at night. Crazy people spitting on me and trying to steal my shit on the subway. I was hit by a delivery courier, dislocated my shoulder, incurred plenty of ER & ambulance bills, and the delivery courier got off scot-free. I was chased down by a homeless man who threatened to kill me unless I handed over whatever money I had. I enjoy nice things in the city, like good meals and cool events, but when I finish a 12 hour work day, I want an uneventful commute home. I believe I work too hard to be bullied by low lifes on the street… I lived in South Central LA for 4 years, and my experience in downtown Manhattan has been significantly more dangerous. I don’t want a mayor in either city who will have any compassion for the evil people who victimize innocent, hard working people, whatever their race, age, or socioeconomic status. They terrorize the people who are unwillingly homeless. They terrorize young adults and immigrants. They make single mothers feel nervous when walking around with their kids. I want repeat violent criminals, of any background, to face the harshest possible punishments, so I don’t have to worry about my little sister walking alone or riding the subway. I have never seen Zohran say he will do this. I hope my perspective is well received. I believe honest and vulnerable dialogues are the only way our society improves. I am happy to clarify on any point, and I hope you feel that my questions and responses come from a place of love for society and all humanity.

Your last phrase is basically making your whole post less impactful. It makes it easy to just retort that your opinion is probably half baked. I will keep using your words... I run a venture firm. Capitalism is what is already feeding my family, including my parents and my daughter. I hear that you feel unsafe. I hope that this changes over the next few years. I see that Mamdani is committed to invest in combating antisemitism and bigotry. I love startups because I believe it gives anyone the power to change the world and change their financial futures. I don't see how Zohran is putting up any obstacles to that. I'm optimistic here, but I may be wrong. We'll see in a few years. In any case, NYC is the best city in the world and has been continuing to be the same regardless of mayors. Adams has been terrible the last 4 years but NYC is still an amazing place.

A lot of people have asked me if I will get involved in the NYC mayor race by supporting a candidate that can defeat Zohran Mamdani. TBH, I’m torn and undecided. Like every other city run by democrats, NYC is a broken kleptocracy. Taxes are astronomical and services are pathetic to nonexistent. Anarchy and socialism are the next logical steps in this story arc. It's what the people of NYC have been asking for for years and it looks like it's what they are about to get. Trying to fight against this tide seems like throwing good money after bad. It appears things will have to get worse in NYC before they get better. The Zoomers and Millennials need a refresher on the outcome of Marxism and socialism. They are too young to remember the crack and crime epidemic and murder sprees of the late 80's and early 90's. The squeegee men, graffiti, mugging, lawlessness, chaos, and pandemonium. Streets that were too unsafe to walk alone at night or even during the day. Getting mugged on the way to and from school was not just a rite of passage, it was an inevitability. The Wall Streeters, financiers, and hedge funders have been too busy working on their fishponds and climbing the rungs of polite society to remember to protect the system that allowed them to achieve their success in the first place and allowed New York City to once become the greatest city in the world. Not ruffling feathers was more important than questioning the ideological insanity being taught in the private schools and universities that they sent their kids to. All that mattered was fitting in and getting invited to the right dinner parties. Now their kids are indoctrinated NPCs, always protesting and supporting the current thing. Like their parents, they too want to fit in. To do so, they unironically exchange bromides and platitudes on the benefits of socialism over rosé brunches in the West Village. Because their friends hate America and capitalism, they do too. It never dawns on them that their lifestyle and studio apartment that their parents subsidize are all made possible because of capitalism. This delusional thinking was ingrained in them at an early age by institutions that were captured by insane ideology and left unchecked by their grossly negligent parents. Instead of providing their children with immunity from stupid and provably bad ideas that have only led to misery and death throughout history, these parents shrugged it off as kids will be kids. Now these kids are adults who can vote, but are totally unequipped to do so. In many ways it’s not their fault. From their parents, they learned some combination of magical thinking, preference falsification, and an inability to stand up for anything greater than themselves. As a result, they never learned how to think critically or independently. They never learned the value of Western civilization so they don't understand why, or know how, to fight for it. Sometimes the only way to learn something is to learn it the hard way. Sometimes the only way to learn the value of what you have is to lose it. If that’s the case, Marxism and socialism might just be what the doctor ordered.

I don’t vote in in NYC, I spend 183 days in LA. Not one to really talk here, but what I will say is: I work in venture. Capitalism is what I am banking on to feed my future family. I’m a Jew. Zohran makes me (and my friends) feel unsafe. My parents are immigrants from Iran who worked hard to build their lives here. Zohran’s policies want to take my parents’ success away from them. I love startups because I believe it gives anyone the power to change the world and change their financial futures. Zohran is directly putting up obstacles to that. Rather than encouraging the founders of Everytable to open locations in NYC, he’s making it harder for family owned grocery stores to thrive. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I just think yours is probably half baked.

@tyler Lol, someone who supported actual kleptocrat for President is saying "like every city run by democrats, NYC is a broken kleptocracy". Hey man, look in the mirror. We will figure out our city without you and your meddling, thank you very much. You already screwed the country up.

ChatGPT literally saved this guy’s life after he got lost in the woods. The groupd got lost for 5 hrs in unmapped woods on an ATV ride, then one guy sent phone GPS coords to ChatGPT every few minutes. ChatGPT replied with clear compass cues, road names, and terrain notes, guiding them back to town unharmed. From r/ChatGPT/Own_Analyst3795
