Sunflower (noun): a quiet revolution against the chaos of email

A few people we're building Sunflower for: The person who checks email first thing in the morning because the anxiety of not checking is worse than the anxiety of checking. They're not addicted to it. They're waiting for something that brings calm. The person who realizes how much of their weekly hours are lost into checking, refreshing, and revisiting their inbox. Most of the time, its a productivity sink. But they know they have to, because they can’t trust their current inbox to surface what actually matters without them. And then there’s the person who realizes what an act of care it can be to thoughtfully write to someone, and receive mails that are meant specifically for you. These are the people that want to meaningfully connect with others. We want to show them that email can be their medium too. If you're any of these people: we're building toward you. Our engineer's favourite feature: smart snooze. It reads the context of your email and snoozes it until exactly the right time, so your inbox only shows what matters right now. Less noise today. Perfect timing later.

Builders and artists: where do you find your strongest design inspiration from?

Just love it. Sunflower is doing to email what the iPhone did to websites. It collapses the attention window. Also, @trysunflower and @WisprFlow are a match made in heaven. I love the attention to detail (like Auto-subject); it keeps getting better.

I’m extremely proud of how much care & thought our team puts into every interface of @trysunflower Building a new email client from the ground up involves implementing a ton of “table stakes” features. We see each one as an opportunity to add our contribution & rethink design patterns that mostly haven’t evolved in decades. Email is changing dramatically, but it’s not going away. If you’re going to spend time in your inbox, it should be a space you actually enjoy spending time in. We hope every ounce of care we pour into every interface we ship contributes towards that feeling ❤️
