@demiurgently really opened my eyes that pregnancy just affects women in wildly different ways and someone having a harder time has nothing to do with them being lazy or undisciplined or something

@demiurgently and now that i'm towards the end (33w) i am struggling to eat and gain weight bc of the physical discomfort on top of gestational diabetes making it even harder to eat anything. it's not like i'm avoiding the weight gain from superior self control, i can't even if i want to

i basically cant be in a calorie deficit & also breastfeed my baby, so i fall into the latter group dont have a lot of patience for bros on here who insist women can just bounce back after pregnancy. sometimes doing a good thing for ur baby means looking chopped for a while
Mami@AnitaSmoke420

You know what I find funny. There's probably an equal 50/50 split for women who say breastfeeding helped them lose weight quicker vs those who say it made it harder to lose weight

@sgodofsk this is gonna make me sound so boomer but they also expect to be able to afford an apt with no roommates in a trendy city. i graduated with a pretty good starting salary and moved to rural Texas and it never occurred to me not to have roommates! I didnโ€™t live alone til after 30

The fact that colleges have really nice food and expensive gyms and other nice amenities gives a rude awakening to new grads when they suddenly see their real consumption drop by 50% upon graduation. It makes them feel poor when they're not.

Sorry Iโ€™m about to go all โ€œold lady shakes fist at skyโ€ but when I was starting out it was a normal expectation that even upper middle class kids who went to private school (me) would spend a number of years living on ramen and similar.

@ouranometrian2 ppl have a lot of weird incorrect beliefs about how no one had diseases in the past like cancers and heart disease etc. humans have always been suffering from those issues, we actually can survive them much better now!

I dont feel like fertility issues are more common now that in the past and here is my reasoning: 1: many people got diseases that we know today negatively affect fertility. People dont get those diseases in the first world. 2: there are a lot of fairy tales, folk tales, religious scripture, and prayers around fertility..or I should say lacking fertility. Seems like it must have been a common enough issue that we kept writing about it and praying to who ever about it 3: there are medical writings about various "treatments" for it from antiquity

@SarAllyce @FattyNoNatty This is true the last time I tried halo top was like 10 years ago or something during a keto phase and it was so hard. I have been buying it recently (gestational diabetes ๐Ÿ˜ญ) and was shocked at how good the texture was

@SarAllyce @SagesBasics also you still build grip strength when doing lifts with straps! when i worked my deadlift up to almost 300 lbs i was doing the top sets with straps, and doing my warmups without, and by the end my warmups were higher than my earlier top sets without straps...

There's two types of people when it comes to back tweaks 1) The Back Tweak Chad "Coach I tweaked my back this weekend, planning on doing my prescribed weights because it'll probably make me feel better. If I need too I'll adjust loads or modify the lift to a tolerable level so I can keep training" His back is better by the end of the week 2) The Perpetual Glassback "Coach I felt some stiffness in my back this weekend! I booked an MRI with my doctor and he said it's likely a slipped disc or a subluxed pelvis. I need to stop lifting so heavy (his Deadlfit max is 215lbs) completely for a while and I'll circle back with you later" Guy goes years without just getting strong

Most people never read or understand Starting Strength past the first "Phase" Do some Willy nilly version of the lifts squatting high, improper set up Push pressing Benching flat And doing trap bar deadlifts because someone told them trap bars are better for their back And drink a gallon of milk Get fat, dont get strong, blame program and Rippetoe for being mean

@sam_gzstrength I feel like people just hear about SS or read one article, stop reading at the โ€œ5lbs per workoutโ€ part and write it off. I used to think โ€œjust read the bookโ€ was silly but then I read them and now I get it.

@doctorcalf @yosoymario91 This is true. I really did not know what it felt like to actually really TRY to lift a heavy weight. Your brain tells you to give up before you even get close and you think โ€œit feels hard so I canโ€™t lift itโ€. I needed a coach to teach me to push through that.

Even though I'm a fan of Mentzer and Yates and HIT, I don't think doing only 2 working sets per muscle group provides enough stimulus for most people. You're simply not training hard enough. If you watch Blood & Guts with Dorian, you can see that he literally gives everything to every set and every rep. He has a great quote: "Imagine you're doing a set, and you're doing absolutely as much as you can, and you think that you've failed. But some nasty looking dude comes up and puts a gun right to your head and said, 'if you don't do one more rep, I'm gonna blow your brains out.' Could you do one more?" The average person simply can't train with that mindset or intensity. They never come close to true failure and probably leave at least 2โ€“3 RIR on the table. I'm not deluding myself, I know I can't train with that level of intensity either. So I stick to around 8โ€“10 working sets per muscle group total (sometimes spread across more than one session). For example: 3 sets of flat bench, 3 sets of incline, and 3 sets of flies for chest. It works for me. I've been growing consistently and progressing on my lifts. This is why training experience and knowing your own body are so important. Some approaches work great for certain people and not for others.

@SarAllyce It PISSES ME OFF so much when ppl want to talk about fertility rate and itโ€™s always directed at the women. Women usually want to settle down and have kids earlier but we have this beaten out of us bc we better not scare the men off!
