I barely recognized the journalist Ali al-Samoudi when I saw him this week. He had been imprisoned by Israel — without charge and without a trial — for a year, during which time he lost half his body weight. He is one of 105 Palestinian journalists who have been imprisoned by Israel since October 7, 2023 — most without charge, according to @pressfreedom.

Imagine you’re a Palestinian, sitting outside your home, trying to find a moment of peace in a place your family has lived for generations. Suddenly, Israeli settlers appear, assaulting you, backed by the army. A scene that is hard to put into words.

Palestinians can’t go home. That’s the whole fucking point

Remember Tom Hurndall. Tom was a British photography student. In April 2003, wearing an orange peacekeeper jacket, he was shot in the head by an Israeli army sniper as he tried to rescue Palestinian children in Gaza from the line of fire. History did not start on 7 Oct 2023.

Fearing settler attacks, a Palestinian community abandoned its village when the war began. An Israeli court decision allowed them to return, but settlers have already destroyed most of their homes. Now the military government won't let them rebuild haaretz.com/israel-news/tw…

In Jenin in the occupied West Bank Israeli soldiers murdered two Palestinian children - 15 year old Basil and 8 year old Adam. Adam was shot in the back of the head as he was running away. That was in November last year. 10 months ago.
