Turkey’s Foreign Minister says Iranian officials insist they didnt fire at Turkey, although the avail data shows the missiles came from Iran (for the 3rd time) He ruled out a military response at this stage, saying NATO’s defences were effective and Ankara’s ‘primary objective’ is to stay out of the conflict.

The Turkish Pres has spoken to his Iranian counterpart and said he believes attacks against Iran are unlawful but Iran has to stop targeting, what he called, ‘the brotherly countries in the region’ saying the attacks ‘benefits no one and that these must all stop’
Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye@trpresidency

President @RTErdogan held a telephone conversation with President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran at the request of the Iranian side. During the call, President Erdoğan stressed the need to open the door to diplomacy, and noted that Türkiye is exerting efforts to achieve this. Saying that Türkiye doesn’t approve of unlawful interventions against Iran and Iran’s targeting of the brotherly countries in the region, President Erdoğan stated that targeting the brotherly countries benefits no one and that these must all stop. Pointing out that Türkiye is being adversely affected by a conflict it is not party to, President Erdoğan underscored that violation of the Turkish airspace, for whatever reason, cannot be excused and that Türkiye will continue to take all the necessary measures against such violations. President Erdoğan said that Türkiye is deeply saddened by the loss of lives, particularly the children killed in the school attack in Minab. Reiterating his condolences for the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, President Erdoğan expressed his wish for the election of Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader to lead to peace in the region. President Pezeshkian of Iran, for his part, stated that the missiles that entered the Turkish airspace were not of Iranian origin, and that the issue will be thoroughly investigated.

The war has resulted in the replacement of one hardline Iranian leader with his son, regarded as even more extreme. From one of the defectors who knows Mojtaba Khamenei, he’s described as ‘extremely brutal and believes that the ends justify any means’
Elizabeth Tsurkov@LizHurra

Sheikh @Jaberrajabii, who defected from the Iranian regime, is one of the few people to know Mojtaba Khamenei personally & spoke about him publicly. In this interview in Arabic he describes him as: * A messianic extremist who believes himself to be the mythical Khorassani figure, who would pave the way for the emergence of the Mehdi (Messiah figure in Islam). * Racist toward Arabs, unlike his father. * Extremely brutal and believes that the ends justify any means. * Corrupt & rich (confirming reports published about his assets, for example by Bloomberg bloomberg.com/news/features/…) Interview: youtu.be/BivYuF2nPtY?si…

How Trump blew up the latest off-ramp for this latest war @tparsi ‘Trump's actions deliberately or inadvertently sabotaged the sensitive de-escalation talks in the region, which is why there was also an uptick by prominent GCC accounts blaming Trump for the war’
Trita Parsi@tparsi

Speaking to several people involved on all sides, I believe I have gotten to the bottom of the story about Pezeshkian's video message - and how Trump blew up a golden opportunity to de-escalate the war. Here's what happened: Regional efforts at de-escalation in the war had convinced Iran to gradually adjust its regional retaliation conduct. In a first step, the Iranian President, as head of the interim leadership council, announced that attacks on neighboring countries would cease as long as their territories wouldn't be used to attack Iran. This is why Pezeshkian issued that video statement (although he went further in his statement, but that's another matter). Regional states were then expected to respond in kind. This would, understandably, take a few hours, as they were monitoring whether Iran's attacks were being reduced. But before they could reciprocate the reconciliatory tone and take regional de-escalation to the next level, Trump issued his Truth Social post that declared victory, insulted and humiliated Iran, and even issued further threats of “complete destruction and certain death“.  To make matters worse, the US also crossed another red line shortly thereafter by attacking the water desalination plant at Qeshm Island. (This is incidentally a war crime according to Article 54 of the First Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions) Trump's actions deliberately or inadvertently sabotaged the sensitive de-escalation talks in the region, which is why there was also an uptick by prominent GCC accounts blaming Trump for the war. Had Trump not done this, chances are that, at a minimum, the regional widening of this war would have been halted and reversed. With last night’s attacks by Israel on Iran‘s oil infrastructure, we can only assume how Iran may retaliate. We’ve entered a new phase of this high-intensity war.

Legal challenges to Israel’s demands and restrictions on humanitarian orgs operating in Gaza ‘No less significant, the proceedings bring to the foreground Israel’s obligations under Article 63 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibit interference with the presence and activities of relief societies in occupied territory’ - @EpshtainItay

The Foreign Press Association has launched an online petition, accompanied by a video featuring journalists from CNN, Sky News, MSNBC and other major mainstream outlets, calling on Israel to lift its ban and allow foreign reporters to enter Gaza and report independently from the ground. Israel has barred foreign journalists from independently entering Gaza since October 2023, restricting access to tightly controlled military embeds while continuing to murder Palestinian journalists. Some 270 journalists have been killed in Gaza since Israel launched its genocidal campaign, many of them in targeted assassinations.
