I asked ChatGPT the following; Define a solution to the wide scale social service fraud and the growing public outrage. Here is the answer it gave - This is a serious moment, and you’re right to name the danger clearly: when people lose faith that institutions will enforce justice, they begin to imagine enforcing it themselves. History shows that’s when societies tip from anger into chaos. I’ll give you a clear, sober solution framework that addresses both sides of the problem at once: •stopping large-scale fraud decisively •restoring public trust fast enough to prevent vigilante thinking This is not partisan and not theoretical — it’s grounded in how fragile republics actually stabilize. ⸻ The Core Diagnosis (Stated Plainly) You don’t have one crisis. You have three overlapping failures: 1.Substantive failure – large-scale fraud occurred 2.Procedural failure – oversight ignored warnings for years 3.Legitimacy failure – the public no longer trusts enforcement to be fair or real Vigilantism doesn’t come from cruelty. It comes from the belief: “No one is in charge anymore.” Any solution that focuses only on fraud recovery without restoring legitimacy will fail. ⸻ The Governing Principle Justice must be visible, fast, impartial, and proportional — or it won’t be believed. Quiet prosecutions years later do not calm a public that feels betrayed. ⸻ A 7-Part Solution That Actually Works 1. Immediate Independent Prosecutor With a Narrow Mandate Not internal audits. Not task forces inside the same agencies. Create a single, independent special prosecutor with authority limited to: •welfare and nonprofit fraud •government oversight failures •obstruction or retaliation against whistleblowers Key features: •appointed jointly by multiple branches (to avoid partisanship) •fixed deadline (e.g., 18 months) •mandatory public reporting every 90 days 👉 This signals urgency and seriousness. ⸻ 2. Public Accounting — Not Estimates, Not Spin People don’t trust abstract numbers anymore. Within 60 days, publish: •exact dollars confirmed stolen •programs affected •oversight points that failed •names of organizations (not ethnic groups) No commentary. No narrative framing. Just facts. 👉 Transparency drains rage. Secrecy feeds it. ⸻ 3. Administrative Accountability Separate From Criminal Guilt This is critical. You do not need criminal convictions to fire leaders for negligence. Create a standard like: “Failure to act on documented fraud warnings constitutes administrative misconduct.” Then: •remove or demote officials accordingly •bar repeat offenders from public administration 👉 This shows consequences without scapegoating. ⸻ 4. Asset Recovery Over Symbolic Punishment Public anger isn’t mainly about prison sentences. It’s about stolen resources never coming back. Prioritize: •asset seizure •clawbacks •civil judgments •lifetime bans from public contracting Publicly track recovered funds. 👉 Restitution restores moral order more than spectacle. ⸻ 5. Explicit Rejection of Collective Blame (From the State Itself) Silence allows extremists to fill the vacuum. The state must say — clearly and repeatedly: •fraud is individual criminal behavior •ethnicity, religion, or immigration status are not causes •enforcement will be uniform and aggressive This isn’t virtue signaling — it’s violence prevention. 👉 Collective blame is the accelerant of vigilante logic. ⸻ 6. Structural Reform That Closes the Loopholes (Quickly) People will not accept “we’ll study it.” Immediate reforms: •real-time auditing triggers •payment caps pending verification •automatic cross-agency data checks •whistleblower protections with cash rewards Make fraud harder than honest work. 👉 Prevention matters more than punishment. ⸻ 7. A Public Covenant: Enforcement + Compassion, Not One or the Other This is the hardest but most stabilizing step. Leaders must articulate — and model — this principle: “We will be relentless about fraud, and relentless about protecting the innocent.” That means: •services continue for legitimate recipients •investigations target actors, not communities •enforcement is boring, methodical, and unavoidable 👉 When justice looks boring, society is safe. ⸻ What Not to Do (These Make Vigilantism More Likely) •Downplay fraud to avoid political damage •Delay accountability until elections pass •Use inflammatory language or identity framing •Rely solely on federal prosecutions years later •Treat public anger as ignorance Each of these signals abandonment of authority. ⸻ The Deep Truth (Uncomfortable but Necessary) Vigilante justice emerges when: •elites appear protected •rules appear optional •law appears selective •time appears endless The solution is not moral lectures and not censorship. The solution is visible consequences, fast enough to matter. ⸻ Final Bottom Line To stop both fraud and vigilantism, the state must: •Act decisively •Be transparently fair •Punish negligence as well as crime •Recover stolen assets •Reject collective blame •Restore the sense that someone is actually in charge When people believe justice is real again, they stop fantasizing about enforcing it themselves. If you want, next we can: •Draft what a governor’s emergency address should sound like •Compare this to Italy, Ireland, or NYC anti-corruption turnarounds •Analyze how societies slip from outrage into violence •Or design a constitutional oversight model that prevents this permanently You’re asking the right question at the right time.

Imagine you are a working father living in the Midwest, you make 75k a year. You can support your family, but you're not rich. You worry about paying for college. Then you read about some Somalian stealing $1m out of federal healthcare programs. $1 million for the normal guy would eliminate an enormous amount of his stress. The college thing would be covered. Retirement wouldn't appear so daunting. It's why guys like this buy lottery tickets. And instead he pays into the system and watches "newcomers" make a complete ass out of him. This fraud is bad financially, but it just makes a mockery of all the hard work of normal people and tears away at the social fabric.

THE HUNTINGTON COUNTY INDIANA NEWS · Steve Harrison · · OPINION... I’m being taxed on money I never made. Let that sink in. I bought my property outright for $138,000 in 2001. Now the county says it’s worth $246,000. Did I sell it? No. Did I make a profit? No. Did I get a check for $246,000? No. But my taxes jumped like I did. That’s the problem. This isn’t income. This isn’t cash. This is a number someone decided on paper — and now I’m being billed for it. If my stock portfolio doubles, I don’t pay taxes until I sell. If my income doesn’t increase, I don’t magically owe more income tax. So why does owning a home work differently? Why am I being taxed on unrealized gains? A house isn’t just an investment — it’s where people live. And this system means you can do everything right, pay off your home, and still get squeezed harder every year because of a number you never turned into money. You don’t truly own something if you can be taxed out of it. This isn’t about “services” or “inflation.” It’s about being charged for value you never received. And people are starting to notice.

Really? I just received your email boasting about your efforts to not give on dime to DHS. It is shameful that You democrats block paying TSA agents, yet expect them to work while you and all your political sidekicks in DC continue to get your paychecks. Pathetically Shameful!! #outoftouch

We’ve got a hell of a fight on our hands. Trump and Musk are burning our government down. Rising costs threaten the middle class. And for too many, hard work isn't paying off like it used to. We must do better. I’m running for U.S. Senate—to fight for Minnesota. And to win.

@AngieCraigMN Why do you think it’s a good idea to not fund DHS and TSA? Spring break is coming to MN and when we all have to worry about national security issues and even waiting in extreme lines, we’ll also be thinking about you and your extreme colleagues come November. Can’t wait to see you all have to campaign against your hostage taking political stunt!!

Dear Senate DFL Caucus, Thank you for your letter urging us to condemn harmful rhetoric towards the Somali community. I agree: painting an entire group of people with the same brush because of the actions or origins of a few is wrong, divisive, and has no place in civil discourse. Which brings us to your own standard-bearers. Senator Omar fateh not too long ago called us "terrorists" Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate called half the country fascists, compared us to the worst mass murderers in history, and did it with a smile while campaigning right here in Minnesota. President Biden repeatedly labeled his political opponents “semi-fascists” and insisted that MAGA Republicans represent an existential threat to democracy itself. We’re still waiting for the DFL caucus to issue a similar letter to Governor Walz and President Biden asking them to condemn their own rhetoric that smears tens of millions of Americans—including your colleagues seated across the aisle—as Nazis and fascists. We’ll be happy to sign any joint statement condemning dangerous generalizations the moment you send one to your own party leadership first. Until then, we’ll assume the concern about “harmful rhetoric” is selective, situational, and reserved exclusively for when the target isn’t a Republican. We look forward to your prompt condemnation of Governor Walz’s remarks. With the same sincerity you showed me, Julia

Minnesota is in a nationwide competition against other states for people, talent and investment.... And we are losing. Reasonable people can disagree about the causes/ solutions. But there should be zero tolerance for those who deny it is happening. Minnesota deserves better.
