@JoshuaTrolly I think the Flesch-Kincaid analysis probably *would* be helpful in this circumstance. As long as you recognize that it's a very rough and ready measure. But, honestly, I'd set AI on this task.

@mlward To transcribed my sermons and to get a metric for if I'm preaching at a level understandable for younger congregants. Doesn't need to be rigorously scientific, but as a metric for my improvement, and an answer to those who would remove their kids because "they won't understand".

I recall Mark Ward discussing how the Flesch–Kincaid readability tests don't give useful data as they only count syllables. Does anyone know computer based readability tests that can actually give a useful metric for a "reading level" of a text?

@stutefc Right—because the principle that guided us was what the KJV translators would have done if they held the NA28 in their hands. If a given KJV rendering already agrees with the NA28 against the TR, we assume they would not have changed anything!

This also means the difference in underlying text isn’t picked up by @mlward’s KJV Parallel Bible: kjvparallelbible.org/luke-1/

KJV translation choice (following Tyndale, Geneva - contrast YLT) in Luke 1:26 means the result = the CT. NKJV is a better translation of the TR. But the upshot is that KJV and ESV readers will read the same thing, despite a different underlying text here 🤝 @TheDwayneGreen

@KirkMiller_ @Logos I found it interesting that the RSV seems to go with the TR—though perhaps they get there through a means similar to the 2025 ESV?

I'm currently editing an article by my friend @mlward on Jn 1:18. It's fascinating to observe all the options, some due to text difs, others translation. (Those in the orange box follow μονογενὴς υἱός; all others go with μονογενὴς θεός). @Logos Wait for what Mark has to say!

@mlward @SpeakTruth07 Mark Ward, people are free to decide which bible they buy. Right now, most of them are deciding to buy the KJV bible over modern translations. Get over it!

@NSReicher @TurretinFan I don't feel attached to their subscription model; I was on my way out as it was on its way in. (I was ready for a new challenge.) But the basics will remain: tons of people use and love Logos and will want to keep building their libraries. I don't see that changing.

@NSReicher @TurretinFan I have many friends still at Logos; I just had dinner with a manager two nights ago. I truly don't believe we're losing Logos in 18 mos. There are a ton of sharp people there, and there is a large, abiding market for their main product. I have confidence in Logos.

@TurretinFan @mlward ...but I'm afraid it's not stable enough on Windows. I suppose I need to invest more in Accordance, because at this rate we're losing Logos in 18 months.
