Because that’s not how it works with federal employees. They can’t just be fired. If they are suspected of wrongdoing, they are quietly sidelined and access is removed. They are then investigated. Leak investigations can take months or even years. If enough evidence is found, they can be referred for prosecution and/or termination. Even if charges are filed, they often won’t be fired until after a trial. If they’re found not guilty, they could sue for wrongful termination. That’s how it works. This is also why I find the rumors credible: they comport with the typical process.
