Amanda Askell, who has no children, was previously married to William MacAskill, co-founder of Effective Altruism Dario and Daniela Amodei, CEO and President of Anthropic, used to live in a rationalist group house with Holden Karnofsky, who co-founded GiveWell, an early Effective Altruism-aligned organization Daniela and Karnofsky are now married. Anthropic also received significant funding from Sam Bankman-Fried. SBF was also a prominent Effective Altruism donor, prior to the collapse of FTX due to fraud. These connections between Anthropic leadership and the Effective Altruism community are alarming and if you go down the rabbit hole and trace the money trail, it will be very interesting…

🚨Breaking: SpaceX is hiring Silicon Crystal Growth Materials Scientists to rapidly bring online silicon ingot and wafer fab pilot lines to develop and refine recipes for producing high-quality silicon ingots and wafer-based solar cells. Note: The silicon ingots here are for making solar cell wafers but technically you could grow silicon ingots in different “recipes” such as purity level, crystal structure, doping (boron, phosphorus, etc.), defect control, etc. These choices determine whether the silicon is suitable for solar cells or semiconductor chips.

This is Chinese AIGC dataset. It tracks all new public AI models being developed in China. Let me tell you some interesting facts like how China surprises us every other day. There are not only a ai companies in China. CAC filed 916 gen AI models out of which 609 have been approved for public release in China. There are a total of 815 companies in span of ~26 months. Filing velocity of about ~35 models/month. Shanghai leads Beijing with over 200 labs. Private/Non-State lab split is over 68%. But 2023 was dominated by State-Affiliated split in 61/61 labs were approved. Rejection Pattern is most interesting here. Healthcare and Banking AI have rejection rate of >90% and Multimodal labs have approval rate of >90%. Dude, this is so insane.

@Jukanlosreve I toured the Xiaomi factory in Beijing last week and they were dogging on Porsche even then the factory is so roboticized they've ~4x'd Porsche's daily production on 1/3 of the worker count despite this NEV competition compresses margins like crazy. hence the low sticker price
