remember when i didn't know that if you download a document from google docs, it will include all your comments. so i was sending agents my full manuscript w comments meant only for me. i only learned this on the official call w my agent. i had been querying for So Long

@MelJRey Definitely. There was a great reddit thread about how sales for debuts rarely start flying until long after the publication date thanks to word of mouth etc, but by then, even the publishers who were marketing have moved on and are on the next new book. The timing's all off.

@sophenwrites I'm seeing a number of debut authors trying to get to grips with marketing their books alongside everything else. It seems not all books are equal in terms of what they get to give the book a good launch on socials.

So to get a deal, querying authors have to have:
- a hot premise
- a social media platform (or have had a hit success in self pub)
- to be able to market themselves well
- to be the whole package
