@kocienda @bbedit I do the same with a Textmate file. I have a friend who has used the same Vim file for 40 years. Do you have an example of a great UI?

I’ve given up on notes apps. On my MacBook, I have a single text file in @bbedit. It’s always open. I draft almost all my text in this file, including these tweets. Later on, if I need to find something I’ve written, I know exactly where to look and search.

I don’t want a lot of user interface in my apps. The best software gets out of the way.

The best way to get better at making things is to make things, and I try to limit the amount of long-form contemplation about what it all means. That’s thinking outside the work. I prefer to do my thinking inside the next iteration or the next project.

I guess it’s tempting to lard on all sorts of processes on top of these simple ideas. My advice: don’t. Simple processes can work. The goal is to ship great products, not build the most complex processes. /end

I see so many tweets about agile, epics, scrums, story points, etc. and none of it matters. We didn’t use any of that to ship the best products years ago at Apple.

Do you know what worked? A clear vision. Design-led development. Weekly demos to deciders who always made the call on what to do next. Clear communication between cross functional teams. Honest feedback. Managing risk as a function of the rate of actual progress toward goals.
