@FredPawle Unjustified leniency and the need for consistency in charging and sentencing in Australia is an important conversation to have, no question. That said, sharing posts that use the term ‘rape’ in cases of sexual assault is misleading at best and deliberately incendiary at worst.

An "indigenous man" has been spared jail (Get out of jail free) and a conviction for raping a woman who was lying on a picnic rug in swimwear reading in Townsville. The judge called him "silly" and said he was "foolish" and gave him a 12-month probation sentence. Joshua John Salee, 19, pleaded guilty in Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday to a single charge of sexual assault over the February 1 incident, which he blamed on “mad lust”. "Mad lust is all it was, we need to take that into account", said defense lawyers. Salee’s victim was lying on a picnic rug on her stomach while wearing swimwear and reading a book at the Riverway Complex on February 1 when he carried out the attack, the court heard. FWIW, around 240 million Indonesians, or 87% of the population, identify as Muslim. Not that Muslim = Jihadist, but it’s still worth mentioning. Feel free to do your own research…
