Vi besluttede sidste weekend - da vi deltog i Nowruz - at lave en The Word t-shirt til vores persiske venner. I have today drafted and sent an open letter to His Majesty King Charles III, the text of which reads as follows: To: His Majesty, Charles III, King of the United Kingdom and the Realms, Supreme Governor of the Church of England, Bearer of the ancient title Defender of the Faith. Your Majesty, I write to you neither as a politician nor as a commentator, but as one of your loyal subjects who, as a bishop of Christ’s Church, cannot remain silent while the Christian foundations of this kingdom are steadily dismantled. Sir, there are moments in the life of a nation when silence becomes a form of betrayal. If I refused to speak to Your Majesty now, this would be such a moment. For more than a thousand years the Crown of this realm has stood in solemn covenant with the Christian faith. The laws of this land were shaped by it. The liberties of our people were nurtured by it. The conscience of our civilisation was formed by it. From the abbeys of medieval England to the parish churches of our villages, from the preaching of the Reformers to the missionary zeal that carried the Gospel to the ends of the earth, the Christian faith has not merely influenced Britain — it has defined her. Yet today that inheritance is being quietly but deliberately eroded. Across the institutions of this nation there is a growing hostility toward the faith that built them. Christian belief is mocked in the public square. Christian morality is dismissed as intolerance. Christian institutions are pressured to surrender doctrine in order to conform to the ideology of the age. Within the very Church that bears the name of England, voices have arisen that appear more eager to mirror the spirit of the age than to proclaim the eternal truth of the Gospel. Meanwhile, beyond the walls of our churches, powerful political movements openly speak of removing Christianity from its historic place within the life of this nation. What would once have been whispered is now proclaimed openly: that Britain must become a post-Christian state. It is in this context that I write to you, Your Majesty. For the British Crown does not stand apart from this crisis. The Sovereign of this realm bears a title that is not merely historic but sacred in its origin and meaning: Defender of the Faith. Those words are not decorative. They are a charge. They speak of a monarch whose duty is not merely to preside over the ceremonies of the Church, but to stand as a guardian of the Christian inheritance of the nation. Yet many among your subjects now ask, with increasing anxiety: “Who will defend that inheritance today?” They see a nation drifting from its foundations. And they ask whether the Crown will remain silent while that inheritance is dismantled. Your Majesty, may I be so bold as to observe that your coronation oath was not a poetic formality. It was a solemn vow made before Almighty God to maintain and preserve the Protestant Reformed Religion established by law. Those words bind the conscience of the sovereign. That tradition of prophetic witness has never disappeared. Nor should it. For when rulers forget the foundations upon which their authority rests, the Church must speak — not with hostility, but with holy clarity. And so, I write to say this, Your Majesty: The Christian character of this nation is under profound and accelerating assault. If the Crown does not stand visibly and courageously in defence of that inheritance, history will record that the guardians of Britain’s institutions watched in silence as the foundations were removed. The issue before us is not nostalgia. It is civilisation. Remove Christianity from the story of Britain and you do not create a neutral society — you create a moral vacuum. And history teaches us that moral vacuums are never left empty for long. Your Majesty now stands at a crossroads that few monarchs in modern history have faced. For the erosion of Britain’s Christian inheritance will not ultimately be judged by speeches made in Parliament or debates in the press. It will be judged by whether those entrusted with the guardianship of our ancient institutions chose to defend them — or merely preside over their quiet surrender. You may preside over the quiet dissolution of Britain’s Christian identity. Or you may rise to the ancient responsibility entrusted to the Crown and speak with clarity about the faith that built this kingdom. The first path requires little courage. The second will require a great deal. But it is the path that history honours. Your Majesty’s subjects are not asking for religious coercion. They are asking for leadership. They are asking that the sovereign who bears the title Defender of the Faith remember what that title means. I dag er det FN’s dag til “bekæmpelse af islamofobi”. Dermed er det fire år siden, at jeg - da mærkedagen blev indført - skrev en kritisk klumme i Berlingske om, hvordan mærkedagens indførelse var en sejr for de islamistiske kræfter i FN, der i årtier har arbejdet for at forbyde blasfemi og kritik af islam. Min klumme afstedkom en nærmest uhørt reaktion. For første gang siden Muhammedkrisen gik ambassadører fra otte islamiske lande sammen i en fælles erklæring, og muligvis for første gang nogensinde svarede de en privatperson… Mig. Heri blev jeg belært om ytringsfrihed og menneskerettigheder af ambassadører fra blandt andet Pakistan, Saudi-Arabien og Iran. Det var på en eller anden måde lidt uoverbevisende, men jeg har aldrig helt kunnet sætte fingeren på hvorfor. 🤓 Anyway. Her er et længere uddrag fra min oprindelige klumme i dagens anledning: ___ I over et årti krævede OIC (sammenslutning af 57 islamiske lande i FN), at FN skulle indføre et globalt blasfemiforbud. De mente, at det var en menneskeret ikke at få sin religion krænket, ligesom det er en menneskeret ikke at blive diskrimineret på baggrund af hudfarve. Først i 2012 blev kravet (foreløbig) droppet. Siden da har OIC valgt en anden strategi. De har ændret retorik, og nu anvender de i stigende grad sekulære argumenter for at opnå de samme mål. Det er i det lys, man skal se vedtagelsen af en international dag for bekæmpelse af islamofobi. Hvad er islamofobi? Et af problemerne med resolutionen er, at det omdiskuterede og problematiske ord »islamofobi« ikke defineres. Vi ved dog, hvordan forslagsstillerne forstår ordet. Det ved vi, fordi OIC med jævne mellemrum udgiver en rapport over islamofobiske hændelser, hvori de definerer ordet. Deres definition rummer både åbenlyst kriminelle handlinger som vold og hærværk, men også » … fornærmelser af Profeten eller islams hellige symboler«. Det var tydeligvis også denne definition, som FN-repræsentanten fra Oman (også OIC-medlem) lagde sig op ad, da han forklarede, at islamofobi ofte sker under påskud om »ytringsfrihed«. Herefter afsluttede han med at understrege pligten til ikke at » … angribe religiøse symboler og folks tro«. Blasfemi bliver altså pakket ind i gummibegrebet islamofobi, som man også får til at handle om racisme og hate speech. På den måde kan man fortsat forsøge at stoppe blasfemi, men ved at kalde det for islamofobi, racisme og diskrimination i stedet. Og således er trylletricket fuldendt. Når OIC har held med deres strategi, skyldes det, at deres argumentation har en vis klangbund i Vesten. Særligt blandt dele af venstrefløjen (og »moderate« imamer), som både under og efter Muhammedkrisen afviste spørgsmålet om ytringsfrihed og i stedet gjorde det til et spørgsmål om undertrykkelse af minoriteter. Dette forsøg på at ophæve forskellen mellem kritik af ideer (islam) og mennesker (muslimer) er vi nødt til at modstå ved enhver given lejlighed. Den skelnen er nemlig fuldstændig fundamental i et oplyst liberalt demokrati. Derfor er det også bedrøveligt, at FN (og Danmark) i den grad har sovet i timen. Den enstemmige vedtagelse af resolutionen er ikke kun en symbolsk sejr for OIC, men også en legitimering af et begreb, som flittigt anvendes til at friholde islam for kritik”. #dkpol #dkmedier

There is a responsibility resting on the shoulders of our generation. A great one. Perhaps the greatest. Not because other generations don’t care. Many have already fought their battles, built their lives, and are naturally stepping back. Not out of weakness, but because that is simply how the cycle of life unfolds. Generation Y is in the middle of raising small children, facing career pressure, and building families. Their focus is - quite naturally - on what is close, practical, and demanding their energy every single day. And then there is us. Generation X. Old enough to have lived before the world became relative. Young enough to still have the energy, strength, and courage to act. Experienced enough to recognize manipulation. And free enough to no longer live for the approval of others. We are the bridge. And bridges carry weight. That does not mean we must save the world alone. But it does mean we cannot lean back and hope someone else will do it. Because we can see what is happening. At least those of us who are awake and paying close attention. We see ideologies dissolving responsibility and identity. We see political movements weakening social cohesion. We see a dangerous naïveté toward ideologies - including and especially political Islam - that are not merely matters of faith, but also law, power, and social structure. And we see the consequences. Fragmentation. Uncertainty. Fear of speaking the truth out loud. Societies slowly losing direction and their foundation. That is why responsibility rests on us. Not the responsibility to shout the loudest, but the responsibility to stand firm. To say no when something does not work. To protect what actually does work. To insist on the values that have created freedom, stability, and security for generations. And here, we also need the men. Men from our generation who dare to stand in their masculinity without shame. Men who protect without dominating. Men who speak truth without becoming aggressive. Men who take responsibility not only for their own families, but for the countries and societies their children and grandchildren will inherit. Not angry men, but clear men with principles that point upward, integrity, direction, and clarity. And we women have our role. Not as competitors, but as those who keep the light, cohesion, and life alive while boundaries are set and direction is created. This is not a gender war. It is a shared responsibility. And perhaps the most important task of our generation is not to create something new, but to preserve what is worth passing on. This morning, on my way out with the dog, I found myself thinking about something. If I were an alien who landed on Earth earlier today. And I wanted to understand what is actually going on on this planet - the big picture. As truthfully as possible. Not what someone hopes I’ll believe. Nor wants me to believe. Not what merely sounds right. But what is really happening. Facts. Data. Documentation. Where would you send me for information?

I understand that some Danes are now calling their own fellow citizens traitors simply for having independent thoughts and nuanced views about the whole Greenland situation and Trump in general. That if you don’t follow the media narrative slavishly, you no longer belong. That maybe you should consider whether you should even be here. I just want to understand one thing: is that a threat? Because let’s talk about what the word traitor actually means. A traitor is not someone who thinks for themselves. A traitor is someone willing to betray their own countrymen simply because they see the world differently. History has shown us exactly where that road leads. My own father fought for freedom during the Hungarian revolution. He was 17 years old. He stood on the side that today is celebrated as resistance to oppression. But he was betrayed… not by the enemy… but by his own people. The result was that he had to pack his life into a bag and flee. So the next time someone throws the word “traitor” around, understand the weight of that word. It’s not a clever insult. It’s a historical echo of something much darker. And the irony is that those who shout the loudest about loyalty are often the first to shame their own citizens for having nuance. Defending your country, your values, and your culture is not betrayal. Insisting on debate, borders, and social cohesion is not hatred. It’s responsibility. A society does not die from disagreement. It dies from enforced uniformity. And let me underline something: we are not disappearing. We are not fleeing at the first sign of instability. We stay. Not because it’s easy, but because we have fellow citizens we refuse to abandon. People on the same wavelength who refuse to be intimidated into silence.
