🇯🇵 Dear American friends, I will never forget this for as long as I live. 😭 March 11, 2011. 2:46 PM. The Great East Japan Earthquake struck. Magnitude 9.0. The largest earthquake ever recorded in Japanese history violently shook the Tohoku region. 🌏 Then, dozens of minutes later, a tsunami beyond imagination swallowed the coastline. 🌊🌊 Around the world, many governments advised their citizens to leave Japan. Some embassies reduced their staff or temporarily relocated their operations. Sendai Airport filled with people desperately trying to leave Japan. ✈️ March 11. The earthquake. The tsunami. Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant lost all electrical power. The cooling systems failed, and the reactors began to melt down. ⚠️ March 12. Unit 1 exploded. 💥 The reactor building was torn apart, and the images spread across the world. Fear of radiation spread across the globe, and many people tried to keep their distance from Japan. But then… 🇺🇸 America came closer. Within hours of the earthquake, the decision was made. On March 12, Operation Tomodachi began. 🤝 24,000 service members. 189 aircraft. ✈️ 24 ships. ⚓ They headed toward the disaster area. Even with the fear of explosions still lingering, they carefully managed the risks of radiation while delivering food, water, and medical supplies, and continued their relief operations. 🚢📦💧 It wasn’t only the U.S. military stationed in Japan. From the American mainland, from across the Pacific, and from Americans living in Japan, an overwhelming desire arose 「We want to help Japan.」 😭 They helped restore Sendai Airport. ✈️ They delivered emergency supplies. 📦 They searched for and rescued survivors alongside the Japan Self-Defense Forces. 🛟 And they stayed by Japan’s side for as long as they were needed. 🤝 The name of the mission was… Operation Tomodachi. 「Tomodachi.」 🥹 Perhaps that name was chosen carefully. Or perhaps there simply wasn’t any other word that fit. A kunoichi trains for years never to show emotion while on a mission. To observe. To report. To act without being ruled by emotion. And yet, every time I remember those ships sailing toward Tohoku, I cannot count how many times I have cried. 😭 Even today, I cannot find words in any language to express what I felt back then. 💙😭 When so many people were trying to leave Japan, you came. 😭 When fear and uncertainty covered our nation, you stayed by our side. 😭 You rescued survivors, delivered hope, and stood with us when we needed friends the most. 😭 A kunoichi remembers everything. Even now, more than fifteen years later. 🕊️ Happy 250th Birthday, America. 🎉 Japan will never forget the friendship you showed us on those days. 🇯🇵🤝🇺🇸 Never. Forever… 🥹❤️ #A250inJapan

@tommerrer @tolkienzone Excellent. I no longer feel the urge to write you an essay explaining how wrong you are & how dirty PJ did Faramir in the films. He’s also one of my favorites.

The Council of Elrond might be the most underrated scene in the entire trilogy, and it's all because of Boromir. Everyone remembers the Black Speech, the darkening sky, Gandalf's voice cracking the room in half. But the real story of that scene is a good man quietly falling apart. The moment Frodo sets the ring down, Boromir is the first to speak. "So it is true." Two seconds, and the ring already has him. But here's what makes it tragic instead of villainous. Boromir never wanted it for himself. Watch his speech about Gondor. His father holding back Mordor for years, his people bleeding so everyone else's lands stay safe, and no one even thanking them for it. He's not greedy. He's desperate. He's a man who has watched his home fight alone for too long, and now someone puts a weapon on the table and tells him he can't use it. And listen to the music underneath. The second he speaks of Gondor, the horn theme plays quietly beneath him. Even while the ring is corrupting him, the score remembers who he really is. A man of Númenor. A protector. That's why the older you get, the more Boromir hits. As a kid you see the guy who tried to take the ring. As an adult you see the man carrying a weight nobody helped him carry, whose only real flaw was loving his people too much. He fails the test at the Council. But he dies with a horn to his lips defending two hobbits who couldn't defend themselves. The most human character in Middle-earth, start to finish

Styx Album Ranking from Worst to Best #1: The Grand Illusion (1977) I mentioned yesterday that there was only ONE factor that helped me decide why this was number 1. Well, I won’t keep you waiting any longer…😂 In my humble opinion, I think this album is the absolute APEX of the band’s songwriting skills and creativity! They had already built good momentum after Crystal Ball with newcomer Tommy Shaw. Once the chemistry between him, Deyoung and JY was established, there was NO holding back! And I think the band was still interested in dabbling with Prog elements like on their older albums before Shaw. Except now they had the talent to pull it off well!😂 This album is the ULTIMATE bridge between the band’s ambitious side AND their hit making side! The opening title track is a MASTERPIECE of a song! And the middle riff definitely rivals ‘Queen Of Spades’ as the BEST riff they ever wrote! I’m sure everyone will say ‘Renegade’, but I believe the DEFINITIVE Tommy Shaw song is ‘Fooling Yourself (Angry Young Man)’! The acoustic guitars and infection hook showcases EVERYTHING great about his voice! ‘Superstars’ has UNBELIEVABLE vocal harmonies! So good! Then EVERYONE knows and loves ‘Come Sail Away’! I won’t hear otherwise!😂 ‘Miss America’ is probably my favorite JY track ever! Such a killer riff! I absolutely LOVE ‘Man In The Wilderness’! Might actually be my favorite song on the album and subsequently my favorite Styx ballad EVER! Then ‘Castle Walls’ sounds like the band’s swan song when it comes to including Prog elements into their sound. Maybe the last overtly EPIC track they ever wrote! A lot of times, transition albums in a band’s catalog are divisive and experimental. But this is a case where that kind of album was able to showcase the IMMENSE talent this band had. And that they were just SCRATCHING THE SURFACE of what they were capable of! And everything was validated when they went on to release three consecutive multi-platinum selling albums after this!😂 Just a band that was disrespected SO MUCH over the years for being “too corporate” and “not authentic”…YOU TELL ME that this album sounds FUCKING corporate! I DARE YOU!😂
