@TerroristBlue I don't understand why anyone thinks birth right citizenship is reasonable though. It's quite obviously not sustainable and there is no benefits for actual citizens.

I said thisโ€ฆ I said all of this BEFORE the election. BEFORE an executive order. I said they were going for the 14th Amendment. The Dred Scott ruling was officially overturned by the 14th Amendment. If the 14th Amendment is overturned, the constitutional basis for citizenship would revert to pre-Civil War standards. That means it could potentially leave the 1857 ruling active as a legal precedent that deemed Black Americans non-citizens. But yโ€™all said I was fear mongering. You didnโ€™t like the fact a fucking Hispanic was warning you.
Tuki@TukiFromKL

๐Ÿšจ Do you understand what SCOTUS is about to decide? in 1857, the Supreme Court ruled that Black Americans... even those born free on American soil.. could never be citizens.. it was called the Dred Scott decision.. one of the most shameful rulings in legal history.. it took a Civil War and 360,000 Union deaths to fix it.. in 1868, Congress passed the 14th Amendment.. "all persons born or naturalized in the United States are citizens".. no exceptions.. no asterisks.. they wrote it that way on purpose.. so no government could ever again decide who counts as American on this soil.. it has stood for 156 years.. Trump signed an executive order trying to end it.. not a constitutional amendment.. not an act of Congress.. an executive order.. and SCOTUS is about to decide if that's allowed.. here's what nobody's saying out loud.. this isn't about immigration.. if a president can override the 14th Amendment with an executive order.. there is no amendment a president cannot override with an executive order.. one executive order just did what the Confederacy couldn't.

@upper_pp @SpookieMusk @doodamos @brad_polumbo Mmm no, thatโ€™s not it. Itโ€™s that most of your responses have been somewhat incoherent, while youโ€™ve struggled to understand basic argumentative concepts. But thereโ€™s nothing more difficult in this world than convince an idiot that heโ€™s wrong soโ€ฆ good job buddy! Well done!

I've ardently defended Erika Kirk from the ostensibly serious podcasters & media stars defaming her and baselessly implicating her in crimes. But my feelings about the comedian Druski's mockery of Erika Kirk are more complex. For years, I, and many others on the Right, defended edgy and wildly offensive comedy, like mocking trans people and even joking about horrible things like domestic violence, the Holocaust, and AIDS. How can anyone on the Right really argue, in that context, that a comedian mocking a widow is somehow beyond the pale... without being totally hypocritical?

@millhist @Stephen_Fremel @axiochrono now that's a good argument for lack of schools seeming unreasonable, however, there is no necessity for them to be as formalized. x.com/upper_pp/statuโ€ฆ
Baseball fallout ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ด@upper_pp

@Stephen_Fremel @millhist @axiochrono The most logical implications is that either they're not as magical or they're not formalized. Either way, it's not inherently wrong like you guys are pretending. It's like saying that india and china not being able to produce 12 men who play soccer at a high level is bad writing

The thing that baffles me most about this map is that there was literally no point. JKR could have just said "every country has its own wizard school" and left it at that. No one would have questioned that.
The Late Knight Show@Knightly_Hist

I know it's old news but whenever people bring up the world outside Hogwarts I just remember that there's 1 school for the British isles... And the rest of the world looks like this.

@Stephen_Fremel @millhist @axiochrono rarity of height is irrelevant, the analogy is on the disproportionate amount of 7 footer by populations, like how magic can be extremely rare in the rest of the planet, but slightly less extreme in the british isles. And how that in itself is not bad writing or world building.

@Stephen_Fremel @millhist @axiochrono yeah, I'm saying that it is not applicable with outliers in the real world, so why in the heck do you expect to be proportionate for an outlier in the magical world to the point you criticize it as bad writing and unreasonable? When it perfectly fits patterns of reality?

@Stephen_Fremel @millhist @axiochrono Homegirl, the point I'm illustrating is that your initial premise that the proportion of magical people should be somewhat similar is explicitly wrong, think of being 7 feet as being magical, no reason for different populations to have the same rate despite it being a "born" thing

@Stephen_Fremel @millhist @axiochrono that's true, fair argument. I guess that's why indians don't have to live vicariously through argentinas in soccer, because they produce their own top tier athletes. Or why Australians despite having less than 2 percent of indian's population is better at cricket than india.

@Stephen_Fremel @millhist @axiochrono yeah, hence bigger populations having greater output of athletes, you know what explains people of east african descent being disproportionately good at running? The economy. You know what explains the lack of filipinos in the nba despite them being crazy about the sport? Economy

@upper_pp @SpookieMusk @doodamos @brad_polumbo I don't agree with it, but it's an actual cohesive rebuttal. That statement demonstrated actual knowledge of argumentative principles, which throughout the discussion you've shown no evidence of having a grasp on.

@Stephen_Fremel @millhist @axiochrono it is, but the operative principle that pretending your extrapolation is factual enough that it becomes bad writing is equally is as asinine as pretending that superman must exist, as it doesn't even work like that in the real world. Hence the analogy.

@upper_pp @SpookieMusk @doodamos @brad_polumbo Brother, if you think that saying two things that are different are, in fact, different is a "good" or "valid" argument, then your IQ is in the single digits. No college professor would ever accept that as a valid argument, which you'd know if you'd gone to college.
