"Build for agents" is an L take. Negative loyalty. CLIs/MCPs are one plugin/"skill"/reverse engineering effort away from obsolescence. End users are where the value is still in 2026.

Published my latest article BAN COOKIE BANNERS: A CASE STUDY IN TECH REGULATION in the Harv. J. of Law & Tech! A cri de cœur to end this worse-than-useless regulatory compliance regime and let something that actually protects users take its place. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf… 1/

Tremendous take. We have to step back from the internet every once in a while and look in the mirror. The other day tapped out a spicy take on the legal tech world (and its massive influx of VC money). It would have had good traction on that particular platform that is frothing for that kind of shade, but after I re-read it a few times, I deleted it. I decided that wasn't who I wanted me or my children to be.

I subscribe to and enjoy Gioia's newsletter. You should too -- I've discovered a lot of great music through it. Lots of people gave Meta VR less than 50% chance of success. The man in the arena (Zuck) has to try anyway at those odds. So it's lame to gloat when it fails.

That’s because the thing that is making your blog posts worthwhile is the difficult work of taking your mental model and serializing it into a useful bitstream with high signal-to-noise ratio. LLMs can’t do that given a tiny prompt from that mental model—they only have a statistical model of ~mean (“slop”) serializations, which if you’re doing something new and interesting (an infinitely large category), is no replacement for that difficult work. Furthermore, the serialization itself is a useful process to concretize & solidify the mental model itself! LLMs obviously do not produce that either.

"It's not the people who can code, it's the people with grit!" Sir, you have all this grit but never learned to code and build your dream app? I doubt you know what the word grit means. Maybe it was never the coding that stopped you, it was you and likely will still be you.

We may not be on same page about how much AI will automate legal work but I think it’s fair to say that we all underestimate how much it’ll automate illegal work

Although in my quick testing maybe this is one of those "I can make it as fast as you want, if it doesn't have to work" 😂. It couldn't arrive at a functional snake game in a single HTML file. But to be fair, it had no tools or feedback. Still blew the test!

Taalas is crazy. My go-to (ha!) prompt for creating a simple wiki system in 0.062s with 15,000 tok/sec?! It looks like it's cheating, but it's real. Unbelievable. chatjimmy.ai

Of course that's your contention. You're a first-time SaaS bear. You just got finished listening to some podcast, Dario on Dwarkesh, probably. Now you think it’s the end of white collar work and seat-based pricing is screwed. You're gonna be convinced of that til tomorrow when you get to “Something Big is Happening”. Then you’ll install ClawdBot on a Mac Mini, vibe code a dashboard on top of a postgres database and say we’re all just a couple ralph loops away from building a Salesforce competitor. That’s gonna last until next week when you discover context graphs, and then you're gonna be talking about how the systems of record will be disintermediated by an agentic layer and reposting OAI marketing graphics. “Well, as a matter of fact, I won't, because ultimately the application layer is just ….” The application layer is just business logic on top a CRUD database. You got that from Satya’s appearance on the BG2 pod, December 2024, right? Yeah, I saw that too. Were you gonna plagiarize the whole thing for us? Do you have any thoughts of your own on this matter? Or...is that your thing? You get into the replies of anyone posting a SaaS ticker. You watch some podcast and then pawn it off as your own idea just to impress some VCs and embarrass some anon who’s long SaaS? See the sad thing about a guy like you is in a couple years you're gonna start doing some thinking on your own and you're gonna come up with the fact that there are two certainties in life. One: don't do that. And two: you dropped thirty grand on Mac Minis and LLM API calls to come to the same conclusion you could’ve got for free by following a handful of VC accounts.

@andrewmccalip How will it handle comms at sea? Is it going to be autonomous or will it phone home, etc? Any more info on the project? Super cool.

I keep thinking about embodied intelligence at scale. Cameras, mobility, comms. The ability to see, to move, and a brainstem in the form of a comms link. A world full of roaming agents. Been a little tardy on Project Bob updates. For the new folks, it’s an autonomous droneship trying to circumnavigate the globe. Last water trials were super smooth. It’s starting to feel… close.

@TheZvi I challenge this proposition. A lot of programming tasks are still limited by complexity that LLMs just aren't capable of cracking without serious human involvement even with insane amounts of tests. See, e.g., Cursor browser

@urandomd I haven't worked with someone else's code base, but I'm mostly working on 'add features to existing tools I use, in ways they are not especially crazy about me doing'
