@tsoding It’s not perfect. And it’s not going to be the default instead of e.g. TypeScript. But if you need to do low level work and especially if it’s high level devs, it’s such a nice tool. Also cargo is 10x better than whatever else is out there like vcpkg and CM*ke

Rust IS memory safe. But just being memory safe doesn't mean everybody owe you to suck your dick all of a sudden. Any managed language is memory safe at the cost of runtime performance. So what? My personal problem with Rust is that it achieves a rather localized performance non-penalizing memory safety at a much higher maintenance cost. (Anybody who wrote anything serious in this language knows that it tends to force you to suddenly refactor half of your project when you are in the middle of just implementing a simple feature.) Which makes it insanely narrowly applicable. Which would be fine if it was marketed as such. But it obviously isn't. And that's the reason for such a "backlash against memory safety, boo-hoo!"

The nastiest manipulation the Rust community is doing to promote their language is "Rust == Memory Safety. Hence any Criticism of Rust == Criticism of Memory Safety". Every single Rustie doing this deserves to be mocked and dunked on.

Microsoft confirms "Update and Shut Down" was actually restarting Windows 11. If you have ever noticed Windows 11’s Update and Shut Down not actually shutting down your PC and restarting instead, you’re not alone. Many of us probably developed a little trust issue with that button because the PC kept bouncing back to the sign-in screen. Turns out it was a known issue with Windows 11 and even Windows 10. It's finally fixed. This fix will begin rolling out to everyone with this month's Patch Tuesday, scheduled for November 11. Requires Build 26200.7019 / 26100.7019 or newer.

old things get replaced by new better things, that's just how life goes and on that note, perhaps you should find another line of work if you're unable to keep up with progress...?

@stupidtechtakes the funniest moment was when this genius tried to demonstrate how Go's error handling is perfection, and without realizing produced a subtle logic bug that negated the entire error check

@BrodieOnLinux No, but someone has created the image that Rust = the gay trans boogeyman that will take over your computer and force vaccinations upon it. And some are buying it.

Has anybody who is angry about Rust being included in git, Rust in the kernel, Ubuntu adopting uutils or any other case that comes along actually gone and read why they're doing so and discussed whether or not the proposed merits are valid or not.

@gutsOfDarkness8 FYI Rust has soa_derive which generates SoA structs from normal structs, and Zig has MultiArrayList which does the same

@tswain555 @unclebobmartin Is that why all major AAA game studios default to C++ instead of C, because it adds “bloat and slowdown”…?

@unclebobmartin I just stick to C. Don't need anything else or worse abstraction. C++ just adds bloat and slowdown IMO.
