@tyelland I do think many Liberals see themselves as socialists. They take a tactic of working from within the system rather than out. Still think they are stupid but I understand why they think they are socialists

@Leigh_Phillips @CDN_Dimension And you've chosen an incredibly sensitive topic on Indigenous women and girls health and safety. Have you considered you're just not privy to the oral traditions of Indigenous people that share their stories?

@Leigh_Phillips @CDN_Dimension This tastes like shit to read. It romanticism jackasses at man camps as working class heroes when the majority of workers are in the service industry. They're often dirtbag jackasses and take up far too much attention in our discourse for their population. 1/2

I wrote up for @CDN_Dimension magazine my concerns that NDP leadership frontrunner Avi Lewis’s accusation that “big manly” remote work camps cause the rape and murder of indigenous women will alienate blue-collar workers even further from the party, a party originally established to defend the working class, not slander it. I trawled through the literature on the subject and found the evidence wanting. The claims have become an article of faith, an unshakeable belief without need for proof. So long as we attack blue-collar men and the remote camps that the modern world (and social justice reforms) need for all of their inputs, we are distracting from the real driver of increases in sexual violence: economic inequality. The good work at these camps, with the family-sustaining, community-maintaining wages that they provide, ironically goes a long way to ending reducing rural poverty and thus ending that inequality. At a minimum, Avi must apologize for his comments. More broadly, he needs to abandon his anti-development, degrowth agenda, of which these comments are symbolic (and which undermine his own otherwise admirable climate goals). If he does not, I fear the federal party will lose even the few seats it has left.

@queersocialism I remember going on a date with an Iraqi man and I asked what motivated him to go to law school and it was his admiration for Condoleezza Rice

@Bzubyk Ok take a step down, Brad. I'm in zona romantica of Puerto Vallarta and you make it seem like the streets are running with blood. We are all just staying in place and waiting for information. The city is slowly waking up with more people outside than yesterday

I have spent a lot of time in Mexico including Vallarta. Here's how things work. The tourist cities have always been relatively safe but the cartel influence is everywhere. The taxi industry, bars and restaurants. If a tourist buys drugs it is 100% certain that it originates from a cartel. The deal has always been that cartels get access to tourist dollars in exchange for keeping the peace. For decades local officials have done informal deals to buy off cartels. It was always the easy way out until today, when it wasn't. The acceptance of cartels has resulted in widespread corruption that has infected almost every institution in Mexico. Criminal organizations do not control territory in a country without officialdom being part of the problem. The President of Mexico was flown to a naval ship because they couldn't guarantee her safety on land. Think about that in the context of who wields power. Despite the bloodshed and violence that is sure to follow today's events it may mark a new beginning for Mexico. The old rules of official accommodation broke today and the Mexican economy is on the brink. I can't imagine the US or any country allowing their citizens to be exposed to such violence. If foreign nationals are killed I think it's safe to say all bets are off. Mexicans have long suffered under cartels and Mexico has been the distribution hub for fentanyl and other deadly drugs flooding our streets. Pray for the street level security forces putting themselves in harms way today and let's hope that their superiors have finally seen the light. The status quo can't hold.

I like how Canada gives its ministries cute names like Health Canada, Transport Canada, Parks Canada, etc … How about Genocide Canada?

🇨🇦Minister @EvanLSolomon just met with 🇮🇱’s ambassador as “part of ongoing engagement on technology, Al, & economic development”. 🇮🇱 uses AI to slaughter sleeping Palestinian families & develops their economy with bombs & genocide. Barbaric. #SanctionIsrael @MarkJCarney
