@chercywong @andraydomise @macleans @andraydomise And if maybe you might even take responsibility for this entire thread for the comments left by your other followers as well. You did this.
English

@chercywong @andraydomise @andraydomise I've been on Twitter since 2007. Tagging has always referred to mentions. And if the harassment prior to this thread wasn't enough, this should take the cake. Just because you are a @macleans contributing editor and activist, this is disgusting, honestly.

@ZhangTaisu Seems to be in the thread now:

Similarly confused. On the face of it, this seems unbelievably offensive and in poor taste, but is there some kind of context that Iโm missing?

Am I missing the joke here? This seems really offensive and not funny.

Hong Kong police arrested the organizer of an annual vigil for the victims of China's 1989 Tiananmen crackdown on pro-democracy protesters, in what activists see as a suppression of one of the city's most powerful symbols of democratic hope reut.rs/3ig5nLe

@PieterDorsman @HeikyKwan Australia SBS Cultural Atlas has a separate section for Hong Kong culture culturalatlas.sbs.com.au/hong-kong-cultโฆ
English

@HeikyKwan Most people here in Canada (or anywhere else) do not understand HK is a separate cultural (quite possibly even a national identity). I always find myself explaining that and people look at you bewildered.

#IAmHongKonger THREAD
This has always been a sensitive issue to talk about.
I'm all for disaggregated data and being able to identify needs in the community according to the census is super useful.
I'm also 100% for diverse representation since Asians are not a monolith. 1/4

English translation of this thread! Having written about Xinjiang for three years, Iโve been asking myself repeatedly: why must I write about whatโs happening in the Uighur community? How great of a risk am I taking? Is it worth it? I have several points I want to make. 1/

@realskan I keep an open-mind about separatism, but for obvious reasons this is not the way to go right now. And I'm sympathetic to separatists as fellow human beings.
English

@realskan I'm not a fan of this wording. I'd rather him say "PRC nationals." I don't want racism against Chinese, but I think I need to continue to criticize the PRC for the wrongs that it does.
English

@realskan I can't judge the degree of his credibility on China issues. But I don't think he is saying Chinese people are "all" brainwashed, I think we can agree the GFW has an impact. Bias and ignorance can be remedied with better information, but we can't take the GFW down for everyone.
English

@realskan Not everyone can pay for a VPN. As for this "mental firewall," can you explain what you mean by that?
English

@aerielist How is this racist? This is referring to the reality of the Great Fire Wall removing access to information, resulting in the limitation of agency of the people in China for making judgements based on the best information?
English

@Drusslaw This is stating the fact of how the Chinese have limited press freedoms, therefore not having the best information. As a corollary, they are not allowed to make judgements on what happens in China by the CCP. What does this have to do with the age or race of @TerryGlavin at all?
