@zeff_dev Apart of being engaging. If they drop useful loot people would want to engange

Prototype #2 (self) playtest result.
Problem from #1: exploration had no cost.
You could peek into any room and retreat safely. Every space felt the same. So I tested a bottleneck map where enemy rooms block your path. You have to go through them to progress.
And I tested event based threats where exploring more increases the chance of bad things happening, like enemy spawns. It worked really well. Even just knowing something could happen added a lot of tension.
But I found there's not much reason to fight enemies. I just ran past all of them. Next prototype will focus on making combat worth the risk.

Some devs might hate this but:
I moved from seeing games as a part of me to seeing them as my work and it helped me so much to develop a healthier shedule 🙏
I still love to make Games but I don’t take Everything that personal again and im way happier now 😊🙌 #gamedev

@earth__sophie I haven't played that game (but it looks really interesting) For now I'm focusing on mechanical difficulty to push players into more strategic decisions. I think that could lead to psychological pressure too depending on how I set the mood
English

@zeff_dev Alien Isolation taught me that unpredictable AI creates the best exploration restrictions. I still dread every resource decision. Psychological pressure or mechanical difficulty?
English

@Landry_GD Yeah and it really makes me focus on what actually matters in the gameplay
English

@zeff_dev I would speed up the movement. Otherwise looks cool!

A story recap option should be a thing too
Haven't played Baldur's Gate 3 in so long and I can barely remember anything
Kenney@KenneyNL
Games should include a menu option like "I haven't played in a while, give me a quick 5 minute refresher on the controls"

@FabienWeibel Awesome! At a glance I thought it was a tower defense game

This is an early preview of Sandcastle, a new game I am working on. It's a relaxing sandbox (literally) where all you have to do is build the nicest sand castle! 🏖️
You can wishlist it if you want -> store.steampowered.com/app/3216520/Sa…
I'll post more dev logs here and on my discord

Not coded for a week. Been filling pages with notes instead, still figuring out the direction and scope. Going to prototype with this

New devlog is up. It's about my first playable version of the game. When I finished it, I felt good for a sec. But then I got really frustrated. I thought it wasn't fun at all and it was going to fail.. youtu.be/kH6NcrtTmeo

@idzikbartosz Thanks! I think I really need to focus on improving the gameplay and creating a Steam page. For the booth, I'm thinking about preparing some small goods and a banner
English

@zeff_dev Congrats! May's enough time to nail the gameplay if you prioritize ruthlessly. The booth stuff honestly matters less than people think—just having a playable build and genuine enthusiasm goes way further. You got this
English

@zeff_dev booth applications are the real final boss of gamedev. fixing bugs while writing about why your game doesnt suck is its own special hell
