I really loved A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and I’m sad that s1 is already over. That said, I do hope Ira Parker tones down some of the comedic elements in s2. When the show builds up what feels like a serious moment only to undercut it with a joke, it gets a little annoying.

I also didn’t like the change where Maekar doesn’t give Egg his signet ring or formally grant him permission to squire for Dunk at the end. In the novella, that moment is such a strong piece of characterization for Maekar. He’s stern and harsh for most of the story, but in that +

quiet gesture he shows his humility and accountability. it feels deeply human, a father recognizing his failures and choosing to do the best thing for his son’s future.
