There's such a different response to this from Japanese fans and everyone else, most people are happy about a dead game being brought back by the community. But I've seen a bunch of Japanese fans angry about this because it goes against the wishes of Square Enix.

Even so. An action is good if it maximizes well-being.
If someone "illegally" manufactures spare parts for those helpless owners who would otherwise lose their car. Then it must be considered a good thing.

@06sixx Let's also not delude ourselves. Square Enix is likely not going to bring this game back, and they are equally unlikely to respond to any petitions or bribes from overseas. Japanese companies do not have a stunning track record of appeasing the wants of overseas fans.

@06sixx If they're fakes, then don't play? Japanese copyright law does not extend overseas just because you're mad. Sorry we have fair use and care about culture preservation. No one is stopping you from not giving SE money that you can't give them for the product they aren't selling.

@06sixx I understand the resoning, but it still seems wasteful from a consumer perspective.
Of course, companies aren't obligated to keep service running indefinitely. But if fans repair a "dead" game so it can run even after its servers go defunct, the company is not harmed.
