While @Tesco post record profits again, British farmers like myself are facing decisions not to plant crops this autumn as they will lose money.
Food inflation isn’t driven by farming, it’s driven by retailer margins.
We don’t need pricier food, but we desperately need a fairer supply chain.
Let’s ensure British farming is sustainable, profitable, and valued.

If you invented a machine that could:
- Restore degraded land
- Build topsoil
- Sequester carbon
- Produce fertiliser
- Create complete protein
- Generate its own fuel
- Reproduce itself
- Require zero electricity
You'd win the Nobel peace prize.
Instead, we blame them for climate change.
These cows will be tending to their fields as they always have, while city-based career politicians discuss their impact on national climate agenda.

What is it with horse racing, compared to every other equestrian sport? Show jumping, eventing et al, all continue on with well governed and managed authorities. But racing doesn't. Why? And complete equality in other equine sports too. No one in UK racing puts racing first.

I do sometimes wonder whether people in the Central Belt ever pause to consider why places like Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders - hardly gilded enclaves of wealth - consistently vote Conservative.
If it were purely about income, they wouldn’t. So what are we missing?

Christ, I JUST KNEW this day was coming… NOPE. Going after our dogs is my line in the sand. I don’t like snakes. Would I expect them to be removed from the Amazon if I fancied a jungle trek? No. I’d go elsewhere. Don’t like dogs? Too bad. Dogs are everywhere in this country. There are also many bad owners. Concentrate on training them. Don’t punish our four-legged family members. It’s the reason so many of us moved out the big cities. So our dogs could have some freedom. And NO, I don’t mean allowing them to run amok in farmers fields or worry sheep. This is about common sense & personal responsibility. I walk past people of ALL ethnicities & faiths every single day & not ONCE has anyone objected. Yes, some people have moved out of the way, which is absolutely fine. Not everyone loves dogs. But not ONE person has ever said anything derogatory about my dogs over the years. I leash them when I should, & unleash when it’s safe. As do most other dog owners. Who the heck is this woman speaking on behalf of?? It’s some owners that need training. Don’t punish all of us because some don’t like it. There ARE ALWAYS other options, places to go. It’s something others are simply going to have to put up with. Period. Don’t like it? Don’t care. Really don’t care. #LineInTheSand #LeaveOurDogsAlone #NaffOffMentalLady

This Labour Party appears to hate.. pub owners, farmers, women who want women’s rights, service men & women, small businesses, jury by our peers, high streets, free speech, elections, entrepreneurship, basic aspiration (sure I’ve missed loads) but do like euthanasia, full term abortions, ideologies over science, experimenting on children’s healthy bodies, open boarders, every declining public services, a massive welfare state, more quangos, more civil servants, huge borrowing & activist unions (sure I’ve missed a few)! It almost makes me miss the Labour Party of the 70s who just loved the last two!

We need to get real about sewage from animal farming - cow poo for example. With nearly 10 million cows in Britain, each weighing ten times as much as a typical human and eating 50% more per kg of body weight - we have the equivalent of 150m extra people and their sewage to deal with. Our human sewage system is at breaking point, polluting our rivers and seas - but unseen and un dealt with there’s the equivalent of another 150m of us taking daily dumps in the countryside and no system to deal with it or even take account of it. The usual bleating about adding costs and making business un economic won’t wash - dirty businesses need to clean up, we’re living in a Cows toilet right now. thetimes.com/uk/environment…
