I don't have all the answers, but I usually avoid the absolute lightest/darkest tones. I start with a dark base and carefully add light, balancing values step-by-step. Terms like soft low-key, overcast, or diffused lighting might help! I was inspired by Conclave, but Villeneuve’s work and Shogun are brilliant for studying this too. From what I can tell, you already have a great eye for it. Best of luck!
