これ、何かと思ったら「統計理論が人間心理に負ける例」のことだった。 画像の重量あげマシンの90,95,100の穴を見ると、明らかに95の摩耗の仕方が弱い。これは「95やるくらいなら100いけるっしょ」という認知バイアスで95が飛ばされがちってこと。 純粋な自然現象や測定誤差ならきれいな正規分布になるのに、人間のキリ番好き、マイルストーン志向が分布を歪めてしまう。 似た現象は人間×記録の世界でいくつもある。 ・マラソン（4時間切りを目指して頑張る人が多いなど） ・身長の自己申告（実際は、正規分布するはずなのに169cmの人が極端に少なく170cmに多く偏る） ・給与・年収の分布（理論上は右に裾の長い分布になりやすいが、10万円刻みや100万円刻みで申告が集中し、滑らかな曲線が階段状になる） ・9999円などの「9尽くし価格」で売上が跳ねる（心理的な安く見える効果で分布が歪む）
