@authintegx Does BIP-110 stop runes? How much more expensive does it make inscriptions using the new envelope?

@NHpilled Why do you believe that? The most likely outcome is that AntPool and Foundry simply do nothing. That is enough to force BIP-110 onto its own chain when it starts rejecting blocks. The likelihood of a reorg is far too low for the big miners to care.

The URSF would only be required at a certain adoption threshold. I think it is possible a URSF is not required for any soft fork that is below a 5% node or economic adoption threshold. However, since it is a tightening of the rules, this is easier to do in Bitcoin by design. For the threshold that BIP-110 is currently at, it will likely be adopted unless there is a URSF.

Question for anti BIP-110ers, who controls the Bitcoin network? Which mechanism in the network controls the rules such as 21 million, block reward amounts etc.? If it is the miners, BTC is trouble. If it's the nodes, what % of nodes need to signal for a viable UASF in your view?

@NHpilled Yes. Why would you want an economic minority to be able to impose its will on the network? And why should Bitcoin require a URSF for every malicious soft fork attempt by a fringe group? That would be a nightmare.

@0x6aApp But what you are saying in essence is that only large economic players such as exchanges have the power to institute soft forks. Additionally that soft forks without that institutional support cannot go through even if they have no opposition (i.e. no URSF).

Rough consensus. I can't give you an exact percentage. To the second question: the difficulty of imposing new rules on the network via contentious soft fork is a feature, not a bug. I.e. Bitcoin is decentralized and antifragile because small, misguided fringe groups are unable to effect change.

@flaming_hodl It does nothing to prevent runes and it makes inscriptions 0.4% more expensive. What is elegant about that?

BIP-110 is not a fringe idea or movement. It is an elegant solution to patch existing vulnerabilities that have been ignored by Core. Onward to Activation.

@Shireh0dl It was possible to increase datacarriersize before Core v30. And people did, which is why large OP_RETURNs were relayed and mined before v30. This is how Bitcoin works. If you don’t like it, fork off. At least stop lying about it.

80% of node runners still don't run Core v30. Yet the minority who do run it are "riding roughshod" over everyone else -- enabling spammers to use the P2P network to harm all node runners.
Stephan Livera@stephanlivera

@EnjoyingBitcoin Why should 15% of nodes (RDTS) get to ride roughshod over the 85%? wickedsmartbitcoin.com/node_count As for decentralization and consensus changes, I'm not gonna write out everything here, but I think this is a reasonable framework github.com/bitcoin-cap/bc…

Doesn't combat spammers who actually want to do the most harmful thing BECAUSE it's most harmful. We need to reduce the blocksize, filter, AND be willing to periodically nuke spam UTXOs. There's no risk in that, and be necessary less often once they see it actually happen.

Good evening, For those against BIP-110: 1. At the time of writing, 61 blocks have been mined that signal support for BIP-110. 2. The growth rate of these signaling blocks is charted below. 3. Depending on how you calculate it, weekly growth is ranging from 50% to 100%. This is exponential. 4. Now add the game theory: slowly, then suddenly. Have a great night!

🚨JUST IN: @Ocean_Mining official account is now preparing for a potential BIP-110 chain split, while CTO @LukeDashjr has repeatedly insisted, in his own words, that "BIP110 does not cause a chain split."

At least someone is admitting that Segwit had consensus.... But total delusion that 80% of the network wants Bip110 rules ... @zndtoshi literally built a website that anyone with relevance can signal! consensus.health
