I 100% agree with all of this. If BIP-110 fails, the fight to keep Bitcoin decentralized and optimized as a monetary network against adverse interests must continue.

Saying "If BIP-110 fails" is not defeatism. It's adversarial thinking and that's a strength. It helps us to prepare for contingency plans & worst case scenarios. It's up to the Plebs to ensure Bitcoin can survive hostile environments and be true to its original purpose.

Wouldn't it be best for miners to avoid all the chaos that comes with a prolonged chain split? Flip the bit, upgrade their software and be done? Ignore it and face headaches and chaos? Are they gambling or are they a for profit business?

What if hashrate never drops to 0% on BIP-110 chain? Will the entire ecosystem of bitcoin freeze? Will exchanges continue to pause txs? Will they eventually employ replay protection so that they can resume getting fees on trading? But how long would that take to get that running?

What will exchanges do during a chain split without replay protection? Employ their own protection at the wallet and operational level or pause all trading, withdrawing, and deposits? And what if the chain split persists and txs are paused? How will miners sell their rewards?

If they miners are gonna ignore this fork, are they gonna sell their rewards at at 50%+ loss knowing that the price will surely drop due to the chaos that will ensue when the chain splits? Make it make sense. Upgrade and survive another day. Ignore and risk death.

Prolonged chainsplit gives the opportunity for capital to engage in pig butchering scheme whereby they tell their followers to sell their bip110, while they buy it, then when they finish buying they change their mind and tell their users to buy it that the legacy chaintip is doomed because of wipeout risk, which creates a feedback loop that incentivises miners to switch.
If this feedback loop gets the bip110 chaintip to exceed the weight of the legacy tip then the legacy tip is abandoned entirely.
To dismiss bip110 as unlikely to succeed is to pretend that the game is over when activation height is reached, and it will just be beginning.
Nobody really knows what is going to happen. But there sure are a lot of institutions who are not ready to be wrong about their position of deciding for the slaves what to do.

It should go without saying that Roughnecks would not exist as an entity without the incredible genius of Mr. Hughes. After reading his article we are preparing an article of our own. This won't be a point-by-point rebuttal of Mr. Hughes as most of his article is irrelevant to our calculus as rational self-interested miners. It will instead be our explanation of why we're mining BIP110 blocks and will continue to do so after mandatory signaling.

Without going into specific details from past private conversations, as I point out in my post it's well known that most of the major pools run Core with some custom modifications specific to their use. Those modifications would need to be ported, tested, etc well before production deployment... and I monitor many non-production development endpoints of several other pools... none of which are doing anything with BIP-110/Knots. I did qualify with "as far as I can tell" for a reason, as I don't have a crystal ball to scry with 100% certainty. Again, I can only work with the information I have available.

@Roughnecks110 According to Mr. Hughes, miners are ignoring it, and he puts BIP-110 at 0% success. If you and other Ocean miners keep mining BIP-110 but the pools don't follow, then a prolonged chain split will happen. It's scary thought and max pain for the entire ecosystem. Godspeed.
