I personally hate this idea of the future, even though investors poised to make $$$ from it love it and so obviously promote it.
I like that there are humans and bands behind the music I listen to and that for every song I listen on Spotify an artist gets some payment.

We're at the point where AI can clone faces on live video, attackers can reconstruct your professional network, and social engineering campaigns run across multiple days with patience and personalization.
This stuff is getting better faster than most people's defenses.

Three things that saved me:
1. Trust micro-friction. When someone refuses a simple alternative and insists on their link, ask yourself why. Legitimate people are flexible. Scammers need you on their infrastructure.
2. Never download anything from a call link. No real platform requires an SDK to join. This is the universal tell. If you see a download prompt, close the tab.
3. Your network can be attack vectors. Their accounts and identities can be weaponized. The closer the relationship, the more effective the attack.

I am so bullish on the real world. Group events. Cookouts. Sports. Parties. Animals. Music festivals. Phoneless dinners. Co-living centers. Healing centers. Retreat centers. Beautiful views. Group adventures. These things light me up. Tech, ai, and materialism continue to disguest me more every day. The pendulum has swung too far. A small group of soulless nerds will continue to obsess over ai, automation, effiency, and the intellect. But those of us connected to our hearts and spirits are becoming disgusted by it. We want real, and we want human. Expect a huge countersurge of irl businesses and events in the next few years.

He's not just defending AI energy use. He is smuggling in a whole anthropology where humans are basically inefficient meat computers that you have to pour food and years into before they become useful. And once you accept that, the next move is obvious. If people are just costly biological training runs, then burning mountains of electricity to build synthetic intelligence starts to feel not only equal, but superior, even if it negatively impacts actual humans.
That is the dystopian. It makes human development sound like a bug in the system, and it makes sacrificing human and creational flourishing for more computational power sound logical. To him, the grid gets strained, prices go up, ecosystems get hit, but hey, humans eat too, so what's the difference?
The difference is that humans aren't an inefficient line item. They're the point. If your worldview can look at a child growing into an adult and describe it as energy spent to train intelligence, you haven't said something profound. You've revealed a horrifically rotten worldview.
