Pallet experienced record high traffic (outside of last week's DDoS) to our API today. Starting at 22:00 UTC today, traffic spiked precipitously and caused site-wide outages. Systems scaling is tricky because it's hard to know which resource will be exhausted and become the bottleneck as usage grows. During our outage today, we were running 60 API serve and allocated up to 90% compute of the biggest possible AWS RDS database machine. And while the database CPU usage was rather high, we found the limiting factor this time around to be the database connection pool. There are two ways we'll be addressing this going forward: make db queries faster, and increase the connection pool size. The connection pool size can be adjusted on a whim, but runs the risk of overloading your database, risking it falling over. Optimizing your queries is the best long-term solution but takes time to implement. Overall, exciting times for the Sei ecosystem. It's always a better problem to have too much traffic than too little. And congrats to @CappysNFT for their launch and bringing new eyeballs into the ecosystem! 🎉
