What is the Meaning of Life According to Muslims? The ultimate bond between two things is love. And Allah willed for there to be that love between Him and His creation. But forced love isn’t love at all, so there had to be free will. Now, after seeing Paradise, no one would choose anything else, and so a neutral site was created — this world, the dunya. And making people choose in front of you wouldn’t bring out their true choice, so Allah veiled Himself and sent messengers instead. Having only one option to choose from wouldn’t reflect love either. So Allah elevated a disbeliever, Shaitan, and let him reside and learn the ways of Heaven for some time, so that he could pave an opposing path — a path of evil. Evil, by nature, is ugly to us, and goodness, by nature, is beautiful, we call this the Fitrah(the natural state one is born in). So to extract even more sincerity from us, Allah allowed Shaitan(satan) to adorn sins with tempting images and make good deeds look bland and require a lot of effort. The soul is pure by nature, so Allah created the ego (the nafs), which pulls you down and loves temptations. Then, to extract even more sincerity, He allowed disbelievers to defeat believers from time to time, and for believers to be in the minority in some places as well. In summary, the purpose of life for us is to bring out genuine and sincere love for Allah. In the hadith, Allah says, "He continues drawing near to Me until I love him." That is the ultimate purpose of existence. True love is something that needs free will, distance, options, choices, challenges, tensions, and difficulties. It is a quest for knowledge of what is true and what is false, followed by the journey of acting upon it. This was written by @DrShadeeElmasry, may Allah bless him, and I've been using this for over 7 years to explain what Muslims beleive to my non-muslim friends

For many, work replaced religion as a major source of meaning, and soon AI will displace much of that work -- leading us back to the most important question, once again.

Shaykh @YahyaRhodus mentioned that the righteous and pious of the past would set their intentions for the coming year, and for life, every Ramadan, so that the reward is multiplied by 70x (I may be off on the exact number, but the point stands). There is also something powerful about the quality of our intentions and duas in these final moments. If we write down and plan our goals before Ramadan ends, insha’Allah there is a greater chance of Allah granting us tawfiq and acceptance. Think about the cyclicality of life. Day to day. Week to week. Month to month. Year to year. And then for life, which is a higher caliber of intention, deed, and discipline. So here is the idea he gave us: Write down your personal goals, aligning everything with that which pleases Allah.(you want dunya? No problem- make the intention for dunya so that you can feel shukr towards Allah) Then write down the practices and commitments you want to carry into next year, and insha’Allah, for the rest of your life. Small and consistent deeds are more beloved to Allah than grand and inconsistent ones. Do it before Ramadan ends. The time and the barakah are still here. Sh Yahya emphasized doing this multiple times during my time here doing i’tikaf May Allah accept from all of us.

I keep rereading this guy’s letter, and it’s still insane that he chose to say all of this publicly. 1. There is absolutely zero benefit for the U.S. to have entered this war. 2. The global war on terror was fought on behalf of, and at the discretion of, Israel. Keep in mind, this guy isn’t against wars, assassinations, or invasions as long as they’re carried out for the sake of the U.S. empire, not Israel. Pack it up, kids. The “Israel as a U.S. aircraft carrier” theory is officially dead.

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

A Heidelberg University study restricted phone use for just 72 hours. Brain scans before. Brain scans after. The researchers were stunned by what they found. Here's what 3 days without your phone actually does to your brain:

Regular exercise is linked to slower biological aging - but only in people sleeping 7+ hours. People who slept under 6 hours and exercised actually aged faster.

Ave person checks their phone 186x a day. That's an interruption every 5 min. This shrinks the brain, causing lost capacity for deep reasoning and sustained thought. Deep focus strengths neural networks for complex thought.

I packaged up the "autoresearch" project into a new self-contained minimal repo if people would like to play over the weekend. It's basically nanochat LLM training core stripped down to a single-GPU, one file version of ~630 lines of code, then: - the human iterates on the prompt (.md) - the AI agent iterates on the training code (.py) The goal is to engineer your agents to make the fastest research progress indefinitely and without any of your own involvement. In the image, every dot is a complete LLM training run that lasts exactly 5 minutes. The agent works in an autonomous loop on a git feature branch and accumulates git commits to the training script as it finds better settings (of lower validation loss by the end) of the neural network architecture, the optimizer, all the hyperparameters, etc. You can imagine comparing the research progress of different prompts, different agents, etc. github.com/karpathy/autor… Part code, part sci-fi, and a pinch of psychosis :)

what you're looking at is a fuel depot burning in the middle of a megacity of 9 m people & nobody is talking about what this smoke actually contains when refined petroleum burns at this scale it releases a cocktail of particulate matter, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, benzene, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, heavy metals & volatile organic compounds, these particles are small enough to bypass bypass your lungs entirely and enter your bloodstream directly… we're talking PM2.5 concentrations that can spike to 50 to 100 times safe levels within a 20km radiu right now in tehran people are breathing this in, eyes burning, throats closing, children coughing, asthmatics flooding emergency rooms & outside acid rain is falling on the water supply, the soil, the crops…everything that sustains daily life in a city of 9m but the real damage comes later, years later, elevated cancer rates, leukemia clusters, respiratory disease, cardiovascular failure, neurological damage, reproductive issue this is what happened after the Kuwait oil fires in 1991, after the mosul refinery burns in 2016, after every single conflict where fuel infrastructure was deliberately targeted, the medical literature on this is extensive & devastating deliberately bombing fuel infrastructure insidde a civilian megacity knowing full well what the toxic fallout does to the population over decades is chemical warfare without the label, you achieve the same mass casualty outcome over a longer timeline and somehow it stays legal because the weapon is fire instead of sarin these people are being sentenced to cancers they will develop in 2035 by bombs dropped in 2026 & they call it liberation

harvard can't figure out why ice cream eaters are healthier. it's because ice cream is the only food nobody eats out of obligation or guilt. the food diary is an accidental personality test and "eats ice cream on purpose, reports it honestly" is just measuring internal locus of control

Day 2 update! Over 50% 😮 22 donors for $5.8k launchgood.com/v4/campaign/bl… Last night went to an Iftar, printed out flyers and passed them around. Today we went door-to-door in the neighborhood passing them out as well - but with a trick! We used the power of reciprocity - do good to others, they’ll want to return the favor! So candy + mulukhiya with a flyer

AI is already better than humans at prompt engineering itself. Better at figuring out the optimal model to use, which tasks to divide among which models, and how to orchestrate the whole system for maximum output. We are moving from a world where the skill was knowing how to talk to AI, to a world where AI figures out how to talk to itself. What that means for us is a shift in where human value lives. It won’t be in the technical coordination of models. It will be in judgment. In knowing what is worth building. In having the wisdom to direct these systems toward outcomes that are actually good, not just efficient. Anyone with deep domain knowledge, real relationships, and a clear sense of purpose will always have something to add that no orchestration layer can replicate. AI will get better at the how. The why, and for whom, and toward what end, that still belongs to us.

Are you paying attention right now? Karpathy just open-sourced a repo where an AI agent runs its own ML research. Autonomously. In a loop. While you sleep. 630 lines of code. Every dot in the graph is a full LLM training run. The AI picks the architecture, tunes the hyperparameters, commits the code, and starts again. No human involvement. You spent 6 months on a Udemy course learning to tune learning rates. This agent does it 50 times before your morning coffee. The guy who taught the internet deep learning just automated the researcher. ML PhDs are about to find out their dissertation was a 5-minute training run on a single GPU.

Tucker Carlson- “Hey I think maybe these fanatical Jews are trying to build the third temple for their world leader to come. Jews- “Tucker is an antisemite and a liar!” Netanyahu in 1990 meeting with a radical Chabad Rabbi- “Moshiach (Jewish world leader) still hasn’t come. We are working on it.” These religious fanatics are leading us to world destruction for their own fanatical reasons. It’s like watching Dune in real life…
