@confluence2edge The correlation part is the one that humbled me. I thought I was spread across a few different positions until one red day showed me it was all the same bet on risk appetite. On paper it looked diversified, in a drawdown it was one trade.

@0xJacobski Asking what the position does if the directional view is wrong changes sizing and holding period faster than any win-rate target. Correlation under stress usually reveals the hidden exposure first.

For years I thought getting better at trading meant getting better at predicting direction. Calling tops, calling bottoms, being right more often than the next guy. 😬 The traders I slowly started paying attention to barely talk about direction at all. They talk about what happens when they're wrong. Position size, correlation, how much a single bad call actually costs them. The idea that reframed the most for me was market-neutral thinking. Instead of betting price goes up or down, you build a position that doesn't care much either way, and try to earn from something more structural. Funding, spreads, small mispricings that don't depend on the market picking a direction. 📈 I'm not going to pretend I've mastered any of it. But just asking "what's my edge if I'm wrong about direction" quietly changed how I size and what I hold. Not financial advice, just where my head's at these days.

The hardest part of trading by rules isn't writing the rules. It's following them when your gut wants the opposite. 🧐 For most of last year I had a plan for almost every trade. Entry, invalidation, size, all of it written down before I clicked anything. And I still kept finding ways to talk myself out of the plan in the moment. A setup would trigger, the plan said do one thing, and this quiet voice would go "yeah but this time is different." It almost never was. What actually stung is that the losses weren't coming from bad rules. The rules were fine. They came from me stepping over them. I'd move a stop because I "felt" a reversal coming. Size up out of boredom when nothing was happening. One time I skipped a clean, valid entry just because the one before it had burned me. 🗃️ At some point it stopped being a discipline problem. I'd already tried "just be more disciplined" about fifty times and it never held. The real issue was that I was in the loop at all. Every spot where I could touch the trade was a spot where my emotions could leak in. That's what pushed me toward the systematic side. Not because rules are magic, but because the less I have to decide in the heat of the moment, the less damage I can do to myself.

@PeterLBrandt I think this dump is to reset price and expectations. I agree with you, more bullish than bearish

Crude Oil prices have come down and successfully tested the underlying demand. Likelihood that a low has been seen. It is rare for commodity markets to develop "V"-extended bottoms, although that is always possible. I am more bullish than bearish from here $CL_F

None of this is financial advice. I'm working it out in the open and sharing what I actually find, including the calls I get wrong. If you're tired of trading on emotion and want to see what the systematic side looks like, stick around. 🫡

So that's the reset for this account. Me going systematic, in public. Funding rates, on-chain data, signal, the market-neutral stuff, and actually putting small real size behind ideas instead of just posting theories. Both wins and losses. I'm not here to cherry-pick the good screenshots.

I had two years of trading crypto mostly on vibes. 🧑‍💻 A handful of good days, a lot more red ones, and honestly more hours in front of charts than I'd ever admit out loud. At some point I stopped and actually studied how the quant guys operate. Felt kind of stupid I hadn't looked sooner. 🧵
