Everything to know about Runes 🔶 Runes are slowly gaining attention as the Rune protocol will launch with Bitcoin halving, on April the 20th. Here is a guide describing how to capitalize on this new paradigm. ▪️ What are Runes ? They are fungible tokens on Bitcoin (like BRC20) but through the RUNE protocol. It has been created by @rodarmor, the creator of the Ordinals protocol. Unlike BRC20s, Runes are independent from Ordinals : their balances are held by UTXOs. ▪️ Where can you buy/sell Runes ? Most CEX will list the top Rune projects. Marketplaces like @MagicEden will also likely offer the possibility to trade Runes. ▪️ What are Runestones ? They are messages stored in transactions (outputs) that dictate the actions of runes within the transaction (comparable to Smart Contracts). The process of creating new runes with specific properties is called Etching. Runes can be minted and moved from one transaction output to another, following the rules set in their respective runestones. ▪️ What are Pre-Runes ? They are projects that released Ordinals collections and confirmed a Rune airdrop to those Ordinals collections. Those can already be bought on secondary marketplaces to be certain to be allocated Runes when it releases. Some well-known pre-runes projects are @rune_coin, Runestone from @LeonidasNFT or @PupsToken. ▪️ Top Runes projects While pre-runes projects will have a substantial capitalisation, the top projects will most likely emerge from a new narrative/team than already existsing pre-runes projects.
