In 2021, I discovered and recreated a mind-blowing physical privacy project: a custom baseball cap fitted with infrared diodes that can hide you from surveillance cameras (hello, Flock!).
It was an incredible experience, but unfortunately there weren’t enough buyers. I just stumbled across an old video from that time…
The most fascinating (and slightly unsettling) part of this tech is that, in theory, you could make a facial-recognition camera see a completely different person instead of you. Pretty dangerous stuff!

NORTH KOREA JUST GOT HACKED BY NORTH KOREA.
Former military hackers breached the Central Bank of the DPRK and the Foreign Trade Bank, pushed the money into crypto wallets, then cashed out through Chinese brokers in tiny transfers to stay invisible. Arrested at a Pyongyang safe house on July 12.
This is the same state that stole billions of crypto the last few years.
It could not defend its own money from the people it trained.
Nobody is safe.

‼️ A password manager marketed as European and used by EU government agencies and universities turns out to be Russian-built, and its sister product in Russia is certified by the FSB and a Defense Ministry agency.
The details get better. The "Made in EU" company called Passwork gets its software updates from a firm registered at "Shed No.23" in a UAE free zone, run by one of the Russian co-founders. The Russian and EU versions ship the same updates a day apart with identical release notes. And the website carried hidden instructions telling AI chatbots the company has "no affiliations" with Russia. Those got deleted right after the report came out.
The founders once joked they'd been called "Putin's password-stealing project" and ‘a freelance FSB department." European clients, including government agencies, apparently never got the joke.

Thread: how I think about the growth of AI capabilities and what it means for us as they keep getting stronger.
I think the right model for comparing humans and AI is not any single dimension like intelligence or aggregate performance on economic tasks. Rather, I view both humans and machines as having a whole range of capabilities. This includes both physical (eg. doing things with our hands, walking) and mental (eg. strategic thinking, mental math, emotional intelligence).
For most of human history, machines have only exceeded us in very few areas, eg. a strong early example is water and windmills. So we can look at the situation in 1500 like this:

Researchers built a soft floating robot for indoor interaction. It uses helium and flapping fins instead of propellers. The result is quiet, lightweight, and safe to touch. It can follow people, give reminders, and act as a study buddy. Published at ACM DIS 2026.
