yeah that’s a fair point. but honestly, in some cases forming a committee isn’t about spreading authority rather it’s more about pulling the right people together in one place to move faster and make better calls. when something crosses multiple teams or functions, a small focused group w/ a clear goal & end date can actually reduce friction, not add it. the trick is just keeping it lean and purpose-driven and not some ongoing bureaucracy, but more of a temporary setup to get alignment & get things done. once the goal’s hit, we can wrap it up just as quick 😉

At Coinbase, it's a fireable offense to create a new committee that has not been explicitly approved by Brian or myself. In the vast majority of cases, spreading authority across multiple people is inefficient. And once you’ve added an unnecessary layer of bureaucracy to something, it's harder to remove. Each new committee compounds, further slowing the business down - best to avoid this wherever possible.
