Traditional interpretability
Most AI interpretability tools (like attention maps, saliency, gradients, SHAP, etc.) focus on the internal mechanics of a model.
They try to explain:
✅ Which input tokens were most "important" for the prediction
✅ How neurons activated
✅ What layers paid attention to what parts of the input
But here’s the limitation:
• They don’t tell you where the knowledge came from.
• They tell you how the model processed your question, but not what influenced its answer.
For example:
> “The model said this because the word ‘chest pain’ triggered neuron cluster X.”
Useful? Somewhat.
Trustworthy? Not really.

Proof of Attribution (PoA): "What data led the model to learn this?"
