The EFF provided additional clarification on why they left X but are remaining on places like Facebook and TikTok. If I'm being completely honest, I still don't understand their reasoning. They wrote that they're staying on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok because "people there deserve access to information too" ... so ... are they implying people on X do not deserve access to this information? NOT a break of Signal's end-to-end encryption. Telegram Secret Chats deserve credit for one smart design choice. They don't expose message text in push notifications. But that single point does NOT make Telegram "the most secure usable way to communicate." Secret Chats are optional, one-on-one only, and device-specific. Regular Telegram chats and groups are NOT end-to-end encrypted by default. Telegram's own docs note that extended link previews in Secret Chats are generated on their servers. Signal already lets users hide notification content entirely. Signal encrypts every message and call by default. The "US government funded Signal" line is spin without context. Yes, there was historical OTF support. Today's Signal Foundation is a nonprofit launched with $50M from Brian Acton and sustained by donations. - Lock-screen privacy is not protocol security. - Notification previews are not encryption. - Marketing is not threat modeling.
