Really fun episode! @jbowocky joined us to discuss her recent transition from EM to IC. I believe this topic needs much more attention than it gets. We tend to push people increasingly towards management because IC career ladders are broken at too many companies.

@morgantepell @0xshellrider definitely needs to do more management to ensure he knows what folks are producing. We have had a couple of cases that didn’t work out, and it’s mostly due to Aladdin’s diligence that we found out relatively early.

Totally agree. If you’re a high performer you’ll perform and use all tools at your disposal to do so. If you aren’t a high performer coming into the office isn’t going to make you one. It’s just a crutch for lazy management that doesn’t know how to assess perf aside from hours.

@DavidSacks I don’t know what kind of traumatic personal experience you’ve had, but in my industry (non tech) ambitious and driven people give 10X regardless of the location. And slackers find a way to slack off, at home or in the office.
