Urgent: There are credible reports that Facebook has been blocked across Cameroon, with users also reporting restricted access to Telegram unless using Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). The disruption began shortly after the country’s disputed presidential election, in which official results declared President Paul Biya the winner despite mounting evidence indicating that Issa Tchiroma Bakary had secured the majority of votes. Users across major cities, including Yaoundé, Douala, Bamenda, and Garoua, say both Facebook and Telegram are now inaccessible without VPNs. The shutdown follows earlier government measures to throttle and intermittently cut internet access in the days leading up to and immediately after the election. Facebook remains a critical platform in Cameroon, often serving as the primary source of news and public information for millions who cannot afford full internet packages. Many rely on Facebook Lite, which operates with minimal data and allows access even under low connectivity. Observers say the latest restrictions highlight the Biya regime’s efforts to control the flow of information ahead of his controversial swearing-in ceremony. The blackout effectively silences alternative narratives and independent reporting at a time when citizens are demanding transparency. Digital-rights advocates warn that this new wave of online repression further isolates Cameroonians and undermines freedom of expression. “Blocking access to information does not restore legitimacy,” one activist said. “It only deepens mistrust.” #MMINews #CameroonElections2025 #InternetShutdown #FacebookBlocked #TelegramBlocked #DigitalRights #PaulBiya #IssaTchiromaBakary #CameroonDemocracy #FreedomOfExpression #InformationControl #Censorship #CivilSociety #HumanRightsInCameroon #StopTheSilencing #FreeTheInternet #ProtectCivicSpace

#urgent Dr. Aristide Mono makes serious revelations about what is happening in Douala during the ongoing demonstrations. “According to my sources, there is a specialized unit of snipers that shoots most of the demonstrators (and even non-demonstrators) at point-blank range in Douala. This specialized force always arrives like mercenaries in a turtle-shaped military vehicle. Six to eight shooters get out from the back, split into groups of two, and open fire indiscriminately. Afterwards, even if the protest continues behind them, their mission is already accomplished. They return to their vehicle and speed off : unseen and untraceable. There is always a pickup truck behind them, ready to quickly remove the bodies, most likely to erase evidence of the killings. This small death squad operates with surgical precision, much like the snipers Israel often deploys to kill Palestinians in Gaza. Their only role is to kill anyone. I wonder if this can still be called law enforcement! My reflection: Since those who never plan to lose power have suspicious military agreements with the Israelis, wouldn’t it be legitimate to assume that the snipers in Douala might be the result of those agreements? If so, are such military agreements signed to summarily execute one’s own unarmed youth who are merely protesting? NB: To those who mock the victims of these snipers : bon appétit. May tragedy and injustice not strike you these days. May you not lose a loved one in such a tragic way. My condolences to all the families who have lost loved ones to this elite unit. I am speaking my part before my turn comes. Aristide Mono”
